Android Central Question

Last week I left to the United states from South Africa. Arrived there I baught an AT&T simcard for my Vodacom J1 smarphone. Innitially all worked for a few minutes, but thereafter network reception was gone.

I tried again to swap simcards and inserted my Vodacom simcard again which I activated for roaming. But also that didn''t work anymore. My mobile network options and apn options are dissapeared from my phone.

Can you please help me out and tell me what to do to get my smartphone again working. Cause even smses don''t come through anymore.

Thanks!

If the original SIM card doesn't work, put the AT&T card back into the phone and try an AT&T store for help. If they can't help you, ask where the nearest Device Support Center is. (That's their tech support people.) See if they can at least figure out what the problem is.

Unfortunately, from what you've described, I suspect that either your phone won't work on AT&T (voice and text are now 3G, not 2G), it won't work in the US, or it's just not working for some reason and has to be repaired/replaced.

The only 4G band the phone has that AT&T is licensed for is Band 5, and I don't think that's used in many places. But it should work on 3G. (And you should at least be able to add a new APN.)

(You'd have the same problem with TMobile, our only other GSM carrier - only band 5 in common, and not much used.)
