Android Central Question

Phone: Nubia Redmagic 5G
Android version: 11

I installed the lastest software update yesterday evening. After the update was installed however,my whole homescreen layout had been changed. When I wanted to change it back, it wouldn't let me remove icons from my homescreen or add any. It also refuses to let me override the launcher with a different one.

What I've tried:
- restarting device ~7 times
- clearing homescreen/launcher data and caches/force quitting it
- looking for a "lock home screen layout" option (there is none, not under settings > homescreen/launcher and also not under longpressing homescreen > settings.
- repeating the whole process in safe mode multiple times
- changing launchers, disabling the Nubia launcher, relaunching, etc.

Nice looking device.

It sounds like you've taken all of the right steps to try and figure this out short of Factory Reset. The only thing I don't see in your list is wiping the cache partition. If wiping the cache partition doesn't get it the only thing left is wait and see if it sorts itself out or factory reset.

Here are the directions for wiping the cache partition... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct.../wipe-cache/&usg=AOvVaw1DvTzRAhvdxsh0JCkJROrh

Considering everything you tried I kind of assume that you know a bit about Android but JIC, wiping the cache partition shouldn't affect any data on the device and shouldn't cause any issues. After a big update wiping the Cache Partition is only removing unwanted things from your device that should no longer be needed that the update should have cleaned up when it finished. Considering how through it sounds like you were in troubleshooting there really are only 3 options left. Let's hope you don't have to go to the extreme.

Best wishes.

Welcome to Android Central! Was this an official system update pushed over-the-air, or did you download a file from some website and tap it to install?
