I can't power off my phone, it just takes screen shots. how do I get it to power down?

when I try to power off my phone, it takes a screen shot instead. How do I change that to be able to power down my phone.

Hold the power button longer. Or take out the battery (if it's not a sealed unit). What phone have you got?
