I know, I know, don't you have insurance? Nope. Have NEVER broken a phone in my life and couldn't stomach the monthly fee (you do realize you pay over $600 for this phone already with the contract...it's an embedded payment plan). Anyho, Murphy's law. My case was back-ordered on Amazon and showed up the day AFTER I dropped it in the driveway. Still works, just and upper 1/4 of the screen has spiderweb cracks.

I've taken to repair shops who say parts aren't even available yet. They recommended just trying to sell it on eBay. Verizon had no sympathy and simply said, "oh well, new one will cost you $650". I am not paying $1200 for a phone! Last time I pass on insurance as well.

Anyone ever end up in this position with a phone before? What is best option at this point? Help!:'(

Sorry to hear about that but call asurion and ask them to put insurance on your phone.it is up to them tho since you did not get insurance at time of getting the phone and if you are over 30 days since you purchased the phone.do not tell them about your phone and just get insurance. Wait a couple days and call in to them and do an insurance claim.I would suggest you keep the insurance on your account tho.
Good luck

I've never broken a phone in my life, either, but I still got the insurance.

Better safe than sorry.

sorry for the drop and inconvenience, but would you mind posting a picture and answering droidintorrance's question?

ever since mine fell off my lap and onto the pavement, ive never set foot outside my house without a case on my phone...wish I could use it without, but at least the case provides a better grip!

again, sorry for your phone:'(

the design of the GN is conducive to cracked screens. lack of gorilla glass has nothing to do with it, as many believe. the glass goes all the way to the edge of the phone, and is simply surrounded by a think plastic border. get a case.

Looks like it hit the bottom front first and then the top left actually hit the concrete. Deep scar on the bottom front of the casing but not chip or glass breakage. Cracks start at top left and go diag upper right.

And yes, not very savvy to have no case and no insurance. Was supposed to get case a week after I bought it but Amazon merch never delivered original order. Subsequent order came a day too late. Damn gravity.:p

since youve never used insurance, and youve paid for it for years im assuming.. you have already spent more then you would of if you happen to have needed to replace a phone.

and furthermore.. insurance is awful.. my friend just bought a razr with a 150 dollar insurance plan from best buy.. hes been stuck with a pantech replacement for the past few weeks and is waiting on a refurb razr.. its crap.

I would rather not have insurance.. if I break my phone.. ill call up Verizon and they can either help me out or lose a customer.. Im not going to pay them 200 a month if I dont have a phone.

best buy's insurance is notoriously crappy. just look at the endless complaints on BB's own forums.

2 seconds of googling can save folks a big headache.

See, the difference is that I don't have the sense of entitlement that you have.

And I don't mind paying insurance since I get a discount on my bill, so even with insurance I'm paying less than what I (and others with the same plan) would normally pay.

entitlement is one thing.. using it as an excuse to have zero thriftyness is another. you keep paying insurance companies.. ill spend my money on other things.

I set my phone on a counter and something bumped it and it fell to the floor hitting the dog bowl on the way down. Cracked the screen with the cracks radiating from 3 brass contacts, presumably the point of contact. I had never broken a cell phone before and was too smart for insurance. I also prefer a naked phone so there was no case. Luckily I had an upgrade available on another line so it only cost me $300. I now have insurance on the second Gnex.

I have bought a case but until I find a horizontal leather holster that will hold the phone with a case I am carrying it with no case. You would think over a month after the phone is out there would be accessories of all kinds available. I may end up with a Seidio type holster but prefer the leather kind with a flap and belt loops.

Both of my phones have been trouble free except for the volume issue solved with the Equalizer app.

Call samsung they have always helped me out in the past when Verizon wouldn't. You might have to pay for it but shouldn't be 600 bucks. Also you will be without a phone for like 2 weeks if you send it to them for repair.

I've used insurance on almost every smart phone I've owned. At the one year point when the Galaxy Nexus is upgraded to a Galaxy Nexus S (or what ever upgrade) after a few months the OG Nexus will replaced by this upgrade through Asurion. At that point my Nexus will get lost! Its a good way to get an upgrade or $99.

And I never mean to loose it.

Happened on BBStorm > Storm2 and DroidX > DroidX2

Asurion through Verizon has been great for me.. I dropped my razr exactly like op last week.. Brand new razr on my door 2 days later.. Of course you pay the $99 deductible on top of the monthly fee.. But whatever. At least I don't have a Pantech like above poster's friend. Now have screen protector and tpu case on brand new phone.

yep, vzw's insurance beets best buy's every time, even though best buy now uses asurion too. the fact that they take up to a month or more to get your replacement while sticking with a crappy phone sux.
