I do not hear sound now when I make a phone call

Hello,

I have a Nokia 3.1 Android phone running Android 9. My phone was working fine, but now when I make phone calls, I do not hear any sound. But when I plug in my earbuds, I hear sound clearly.
Do I need to get a new phone?

Hi, make sure the microphone and speaker are free from build up or dirt

Does this also happen in Safe Mode? https://www.hardreset.info/devices/nokia/nokia-31/safe-mode/. If so, and if cleaning out the earpiece speaker grille doesn't help, then the earpiece speaker has likely failed. Is the phone still under warranty?

I cleaned out the earpiece speaker, that didn't work. Unfortunately, my phone is not under warranty.

When you play media or get notifications, does it come out the main speaker ok, or is that also silent? If it's silent, then make sure the headphone jack is also clear of debris. Use a can of compressed air to blow it out, and a toothpick to root around. Sometimes, a chunk of something lodged in the jack can make the phone think that a headphone is always plugged in (or it could be that the jack is the faulty part, not the speakers).

Then you'll have to pay to have the earpiece replaced. (Or just use the speakerphone.)

Bingo ! ! ! !

I just happen to have a can of Blow Off Duster laying around, that I haven't used in years. I blew the compressed air into the ear hole, and Presto, The sound is back on.
