Have changed from galaxy s5 to pixel. I much prefer the Samsung calendar. Any suggestions welcome.

How it keeps going back to a different layout. I like monthly mostly. And it keeps wanting to inform me by email etc.

Hi! I would suggest looking through the Google Play Store to find the calendar app that is right for you. I downloaded the BlackBerry Launcher and am now using their colander app, and I like it so far. Maybe Samsung has their own version of the calendar app on Google Play - look for it there! Good luck!

On my phone when I change to monthly view it stays even after closing apps and restarting. As far as being notified by email for notifications, you can log in to gmail from a desktop and change your notification settings. I had an S7 Edge and immediately after using the Samsung calendar I disabled it and went back to the Google Calendar. Works for me, but may not be for everyone.

I'm with you regarding the calendar view. I would like to be able to set a default view. But I don't get emails from Google calendar. You may wish to check your settings and see if its sending you email reminders by default. Log into your account from a web browser at calendar.google.com

Has anyone figured out how to dial conference calls directly from Google Calendar in Pixel? In prior Android phones e.g. the Samsung Note3 (as well as iPhones and Blackberries), all you had to do was click on the phone number in the location field. In the Google Calendar in Pixel, this feature does not work. I've tried other apps (Outlook, Nine, etc) that work on other Android phones, but for some reason they don't work on the Google Pixel. Instead it tries to launch a mapping application (Google Maps, Lyft, Uber).

For people with plenty of scheduled conference calls (e.g. millions of people who buy smartphones and work in companies), this is a serious productivity destroyer.

Does anyone have a solution?

I have been using Calengoo for years. It gives you so many ways to modify it can be overwhelming but once you have it set right for you it is great. And it can sync with Google calendar.

Personally hated Samsung calendar, download Google calendar and today calendar on my android devices.
Today calendar is my go to since it looks like Google calendar with material design and also has transparent widgets.

My google calendar stays at monthly as that is how I like to view it too. It gives several viewing options
