I had the same question on a VS995 V20 and the Verizon tech rep said he has nothing about this update that he can see. However, this was level 1 tech support, he is transferring me to level 2 tech support who might know more. If this is an LG security patch being rolled out to Verizon phones and they failed to let Verizon know about it, that's pretty lame.
And...the transfer failed, they are unable to answer my call at this time. I need to change my voice-mail to say that...
So now I'm on hold with LG, their level 1 tech support said...wait for it...this is not an LG patch, it's a Verizon patch so he can't tell me anything about it. So now I'm on hold to be transferred to LG level 2 tech support. Place your bets now as to the outcome.
And the answer I got from "Chris" was...it's not an LG patch. He opened a ticket for further support so maybe somebody will see it and call me back (that's literally what he said) so obviously I'm not holding my breath.
I checked on xdadeveloper also, nobody there knows anything beyond what has been discussed here.
