My Pixel 5 is now EoL and unsupported.

I have owned Pixels 2, 5, 6, and 7 Pro, and my Other Half has a 5a. Of all of them, I liked the P5 the best.

The P8 is a refined, and up-to-date version of a P5-sized phone, with a seven-year support commitment.

Im just waiting to see what deals come along, or until I get tired of waiting. I want a Hazel 256 GB, and my local Best Buy won’t have any until 09 Nov.

So, until then ……..

How long do you think we can still use the Pixel 5 without updates? In my opinion it won't be a big deal for regular use but I've heard many users of this phone panicking about this or looking for unofficial roms for future updates.

Switching to a newer Pixel in my case would be difficult since I hate the bump in the back of the new pixels for the cameras and I feel the phone is too thick...

It’s entirely up to you, and it’s like most things in life ….. you either want it or you don’t.

I personally don’t think it is smart to use an unsupported phone, but many, many do It.

Nothing is ideal or perfect, and it is idle to want something that doesn’t exist, rather than choosing something that does.

I use an old essential phone as a streaming device for an older stereo in my house. I don't worry too much about updates in this case as it's hooked up to WiFi and is behind a firewall.
Battery life is becoming more of an issue though.

Both the above are why I moved to a Samsung S23, from my P5, a few months ago. But I'm really missing many of the Pixel exclusive features. I just couldn't move to the P6 or P7 because of their size and weight. I saw a P8 at BB and it is really smaller and lighter than expected, but the camera bump is huge. If they're going to do that, they should use some of that extra thickness for a bigger battery. Also, and I don't see this mentioned a lot, the form factored is getting too tall in my opinion.

I could probably compromise on the form factor, but the combination of these makes it a pass for me. Hoping the 9 or possibly the 8a fixes some of this.

Every phone has a bump it seems. At least with the 8 its across the back so doesn't rock.

I have 2 cases for my Pixel 6, and it retains it's bump with both of them.

Sure, but the phone (with case) will be so much thicker. No thanks.

Beats me. I think I did read somewhere that the bumps were taller on the 8. (at least one of them).

Of course it's thicker with a case, that doesn't even merit mentioning.

My point regarding the case is that if you wanted to hide or lessen the bump, you'd have to get a case that's as thick as the phone depth, including the bump. A phone without a significant bump would be much thinner with a case.

IMO the Pixel 8 Pro has a smaller in hand feel than the Pixel 7 Pro ...also with a slim case no issues with camera bump ...phone sits flat and not thick ..

It's Feb 2024 and my Pixel 5 hasn't exploded or been taken over by hackers... I even received a system update today... A very small one (10mb) and when checking after restarting the phone it is still on Nov 2023 as the security update date.

Looks like it's not that bad after all.

My Pixel 5 is still going strong. I have no plans to replace it right now. I still love the size and weight. And everything works right on it. Outstanding battery life too.

It was a very good phone. I felt the same about my Nexus 5 and 5x. But alas, all good things must come to an end.
I hope you find the same satisfaction with your new phone as you did with the pixel 5.

The Nexus 5 and the Pixel 5 are my two all-time favorite Android phones. Nothing else was close.
