I hate that VVM is not stock

Is this because of Apple, or is it an ICS thing? Hell I work for At&t and I can't get a straight answer. I don't like having to use ANY app other than the stock phone app. Is there a replacement dialer app that includes visual voice mail without rooting the device? Funny how the little things can drive you crazy.

I tend to agree, I don't particularly like even having to install the AT&T visual voice mail app. Albeit, it does work well, but still ;)

I have to agree with you. I had an iPhone 3G for 2 years then a Droid 2 for close to 2 years before the S3. I got along without visual voice mail on the Droid 2 but I did like it a whole hell of a lot better. I saw ATT's app on the phone and had read it gives VVM but I went through it's prompts where it then says it will setup VVM shortly but it never does. So far everyone I've seen post about this has been directed by others to use Google Voice. Never tried it myself but will have to look into that.

Is this just an AT&T thing or are all the s3 like this?

I always had HTC and they always had a voicemail app built in.

I have an ATT gs3 and absolutely no problems with VVM. Works fine here.

My vvm works fine, except it's not native to the device.. ie it's not in the phone app. It's a separate app.

Anyone having trouble with the vvm setup needs to call tech support, they need to reset the soc codes on your account. If you opened and setup the AT&T messages app, it will interfere with vvm if you didn't set it up first.

Mine works flawlessly as it did on my BB9810.

I downloaded the VVM app from the play store and works without any problems...

Got it to work, but keeps force closing when I tap on someone's profile pic. Anyone else having that issue to?

VVM seems to be an AT&T thing. From my point of view, as they changed from 3G to LTE, they saw opportunity to make money. When I had my unlimited iPhone plan for the past three years, the phone plan was provisioned for VVM as part of the plan. Once I upgraded my phone to the LTE SIII, my grandfathered unlimited plan no longer was provisioned for VVM. I had to add it as a separate service. The android app is very different from the iPhone version. The message actually gets transcribed. I like the android version better even though I have to pay for the extra service.

You can have an unlimited data plan provisioned WITH VVM. Trust me, I'm a manager at AT&T. I have unlimited personal LTE w VVM as the provisioning. Vvm is not an extra charge. The only thing extra you would pay for is voice to text.. And in that case, use google voice instead.

Sorry if I do not understand completely; do you have to ask for it when they are setting the phone up at the AT&T store, or is there an app that must be utilized for this to work? Thank you in advance. I am getting the S III tomorrow.

That's frustrating to hear, especially from an AT&T employee. I spoke with several CSR's over the phone. Total time spent, 90 minutes. Both stated that my grandfathered unlimited plan did not carry over the VVM provision. I needed to add it via voice to text VVM. Before I called AT&T about VVM, I could not get the AT&T VVM app to work because my plan was no longer provisioned for VVM.

I don't know if it matters, but I upgraded my phone at Bestbuy. Largely, I have been disappointed in the quality of AT&T telephone CSR's as of late. In store corporate staff hasn't been much better.

I bought my phone from Best Buy. When I was restoring my apps from the "My Library" section on the store, I installed the same AT&T VVM app that was on my Sky Rocket. It is working as designed.

@ Sailindawg I would call customer care immediately and explain to them that you just found out they removed your unlimited data. They can put in a trouble ticket and get it back for you under 60 days I think.

@Creek the Skyrocket didnt need an app for VMM, if provisioned on your account, it was in the dialer pad on the bottom left (where normal voicemail is for the S3).

I had to call customer service to have my VVM enabled. After that the vvm app works great. I came from an Iphone so
I did not know I had to have it added to my account. There was extra charge to add vvm.

i am an ex-iPhone user and I will say that the VVM experience on iOS is WORLDS better than on Android. The AT&T apps are total crap and its a total blunder as to why its not naitive in the stock phone dialer app. I was using AT&T Messages for a while but that app is the spawn of the devil. Switched to AT&T VVM and its a little better than AT&T Messages but still not even close to the ease of iOS.

@barbecue.. pm me your number. there should not be an additional charge for vmm.

Thanks. I called AT&T yesterday about the quality (rather lack of) of the LTE service in the Boston area. The first tier CSR went through their script and patched me through to a second tier CSR. After speaking with the second tier CSR a bit, I brought up the recent update that took away local search and the fact VVM was not carried over as I upgraded my phone. The CSR initially stated that VVM was not part of an upgraded grandfathered plan, but changed her story when I reminded her of the update that downgraded local search ability. She put me on hold and came back and stated that she could return the no charge VVM to my plan and removed the voice to text that I was previously required to purchase.

Throughout our conversation, I reminded the CSR that I actively read android / cell phone forums and that AT&T is not consistent across markets with their plan options after reading about other people's experiences that upgraded as I had.

Bottom line, I got my previous VVM back at no charge. Disappointing that one is told utter malarkey by first tier CSR's that generally will not send one to second tier until their script is exhausted and even then claim they can't offer further assistance.
