I have a 5x v. 1st gen Moto x, what should my next phone be?

5x v. 1st gen Moto x

So I got the Moto X when it was first introduced. That would make my phone about 2.5 years old I guess. The battery is dog tired and the phone is doing what every old phone does in terms of quirkiness. Only it's getting worse. The really frustrating thing is when reading reviews of the 5x (or any phone for that matter), one review will give it high praise and the next review will say it's worth nothing more than a door stop. As I recall, the Moto X, when it first came out, got similar up and down reviews. I love the stock Android idea (my upgrade to Lollipop, thanks to AT&T caused a loss of about 1/3 of my contacts on Google), and I love the touchless voice commands. Will I be happy with the 5x? Does it have enough horsepower to make me happy. I don't need an absolute screamer phone but I want a quick one. (I'd consider the Xperia z5 Compact but there's no US warranty currently available.) I just do email and internet mostly. Not a gamer. And I want a battery that will get me thru the day......thoughts?

Everyone's need is different. Just buy it and try it to see if it does what you need.

I don't have one but the people I have talked to with one were happy with it

Re: 5x v. 1st gen Moto x

I just went from a Moto X 1st gen that I bought when it first came out to a Nexus 5X. Dropped my Moto X for much the same reasons you are doing so. Things to consider that are most impactful to me. First, it is noticably larger (although I couldn't find a decent phone that was close to Moto X size). So far, I have pretty much gotten used to the size. Second, the Moto X has a nicer feel to it, Nexus 5X does have a clunkier and cheaper feel to it. Since I paid half of an iPhone, I can justify that, and I have a case on it anyway. The battery is doing well for me, it seems to last longer than the Moto X did when new. I have to say I am disappointed in the speaker phone sound quality. This could in the end be a deal breaker. The thing I miss a great deal as well are the Moto software functions that are now missing from Marshmallow Android. With Moto Assist, for example, I get the in the car and it knows I am driving; to announce calls and texts, turn on speaker phone etc. I have not yet found ways to replicate all of the Moto X functions. Hopefully eventually I will be able to replicate most of them with additional apps. The good news is the return policy, so buy and try. I may decide to return the phone due to the speakerphone quality, but I have a few more weeks. What to get instead?? I don't have a clue.

I have just returned my second 5X and am back using my Moto X (2013). Ambient display and notifications did not work and Google support was unable to help. Sound and screen quality was not as good as I was used to, although battery life was quite good. All in all, I have decided to wait for the next new great phone and give it a try. Sticking with my Moto X for now.
