....the Galaxy S2 Epic Touch 4G....
Yes yes...I know, I was one of the people that dizzed the GS2 when all we had to work with was the European/Asian version....but here's what happened.
I am on my second Evo 3d already, and like the first one, my business email just wasn't checked unless I did it manually. I tried everything under the sun, with no success. I missed a lot of important emails that way and it drove me crazy! Aside from that, the phone started to just run hot and kill the battery for no reason, I had to do a battery pull to "fix" this issue. Also, at times it wouldn't charge completely over night and I had to start the day with a very hot, half way charged phone, not good at all! It's latest trick was to just turn the backlight of the screen on for no reason. It displayed nothing, just a black screen, and at times it would just flash on and off, other times it would come on and stay on.
I didn't want to get a refurb, and the whole waiting for a new phone thing was just not appealing to me. Besides that, I did have a few issues with with the phone in general. I was really looking forward to a faster dual core phone to replace my slow pokey Evo 4G. Too many games just didn't run well on it, and Live Wallpapers didn't run smoothly at all. I was hoping that the Evo 3d would resolve this, but it didn't, not completely at least. That stupid carousel gimmick killed the fun of any type of wallpaper, being it just a picture or a live one just because all you see is on part of it, due to the dumb carousel you never got to see the rest of the wallpaper, that really didn't sit well with me. The games for the most part ran pretty good, but, because it's an Evo 3d, quite a few of the gameloft games were either not available or you had to get the 3d version, granted, you could turn the 3d off, but the games still didn't run as well as their 2d only counterparts.
I dropped a lot of calls with the first one, the second one was better, but still not perfect, and voice quality on both ends wasn't great either. Again, this is my business phone, I can't sound like I am talking through a cup with a string attached. Lastly, the phone just never felt like a new phone to me. The difference between it and the Evo 4g were limited to certain games running much faster, but that was about it. With a live wallpaper enabled, the switching from homescreen to homescreen was jerky and the phone just didn't feel fast to me.
So then when they announced the SGS2 on Sprint, I paid attention. I watched a ton of reviews and this phone just had what I wanted, it was smooth and fast, Touchwiz 4 isn't as bad as I thought it might be, it actually has some nice features. I never really used the fancy looking HTC Widgets once, so the comparative lack of widgets on the SGS2 doesn't bother me one bit. It's fast, the screen looks amazing, and the fact that it's not qhd doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. This thing is just fast fast smooth smooth and fast, that's all I can say. It really feels like a new, or "next gen" (compared to the Evo 4g) phone to me. Call quality is much better on both ends, and I really have no issue with reception either. The colors really pop, I thought it would be a bit much based on the early comparison videos I saw between the SGS2 and the HTC Sensation, but now that I have this gorgeous screen, I can't find anything wrong with it. The camera is faster and takes way better pictures too, and the 3d....well, I don't miss it one bit!
Anyways, it was great hanging out here and waiting for the arrival of the Evo 3d, but it just wasn't what I hoped it would be.
Now I am happy...until the next superphone comes out....
