What do you guys like about the Note 4? I may get the Note 4 in place of the Note 5. There doesn't seem to be that much difference spec wise between them. Thoughts?

Performance-wise you would notice the different. The optimizations made on the Note 5 are VERY noticeable when compared to the Note 4. That being said, there are some things from the Note 4 that you won't find in the Note 5 or that have changed the way they're implemented, just as some features didn't make the cut from the Note 3 to the Note 4.

Between the two, if budget is a factor, I'd go for the Note 4. If you don't care about the price tag, then I'd go for the 5 (provided you don't need the external storage or removable battery).

I had the 3 before too. The only thing I wasn't happy with on that was the slow camera and the voice texting wasn't carrying over well.

Camera on the Note 5 is pretty fast, and the full manual controls make it a joy to use. The camera on the Note 4 isn't bad, and it takes comparable pictures to the Note 5...but it lacks the manual controls and it takes a bit longer to open.

Treat yourself to a Note 4 + 128GB MicroSDXC and wait to splurge on the Note 6.

Rumor has it that Samsung will be bringing back MicroSD support in their 2016 Flagships, the S6s and Note5 will go down as devices Samsung would rather forget.

Can the Note 4 get the mobile data quick button back? On the Note 5 I was able to add the data button back with an app

I tried the same app on my Note 5 on the Note 4 and it did not properly restore the mobile data quick button. Please advise. That's the only thing holding me back from switching.

It makes sense that they bring back SD card support now that Marshmallow brings it back, but as far as saying those are devices they'd rather forget...mmmm, I don't know. The S6 maaaaaybe, but since it heralded the new design phase, there's merit there. The Note 5 is selling quite well, and the S6 Edge + is way above expectations.

Turns out that although people like to complain that the removable battery and the external memory option were removed, they still went ahead and bought the device (myself included, and not once have I needed extra power at the end of the day or had to delete files to keep taking pictures, but yeah, I didn't go for the 32GB version either hehe).

@amyf27 - Why all of the interest in switching to the Note 4? What's wrong with the 5 you already have?

I can't speak personally about the difference in camera except to say that the Note 4 has had its share of complaints with regards to startup time and the time it takes to review photos. I've also seen reviews that have stated that the Note 5 is much improved in this regard so my gut tells me that if you're downgrading you can expect to notice a difference in usability despite how good the Note 4 camera is. Personally I don't really care, the camera on the Note 4 is great as far as I'm concerned and if I'm going to do any important shooting it's NEVER with a phone but rather a good compact or DSLR. There are times though that you wanna know that you've got a decent shooter in your pocket so yeah I get it . .

In my case I just need some extra cash for the holidays. I had a note 3 I absolutely loved. I love the Note 5 but don't think I'd be very disappointed moving to the Note 4. That's the one I wanted to begin with ha ha but it wasn't in stock.

Seems everybody wanted a metal sided phone like the Iphone. I head people screaming about the plastic back.
What does everybody think the plastic back on the phone was for.
So you could easily remove the battery and put a SD card in.

Samsung said that the old style SD card was too slow for the new processor they was putting in.

They was gonna have to come out with a new Sd card. And they needed more time to work in it to get the cost down some.
And something about the Old SD card pulled some on the battery.

Been on samsungs website complaining to them about removing the SD card. the removable battery and the IR sensor on it.
They thanked me for my suggestions.

In the future people should watch what they wish for.
Seems they wished for a phone with metal sides like the Iphone.
Well they got it and lost a lot of the characteristics of the Samsung.

Note 4 is a no brainer. Note 5,
Smaller battery
No sd card slot
No removable battery.
An easy decision.

Another thing they took away on the Note 5, and that I use frequently, is the IR blaster that I use on my Note 4 for a remote control.

Samsung removed the SD Card support for one reason only - to raise the ASP of the phones. I have not followed the sale numbers on the Note 5 and S6+, but S6 and S6E sales numbers while ok, were not better than the S5. Samsung now has a lot of competition right now, personally if I was in the market right now Samsung would not be high on my list. If I did not want an SD card to me the no brainer choice is the buy the new Nexus. No more TouchWiz and you actually get updates.

I for one did not want a metal sided phone like the iPhone. If I wanted a phone like an iPhone I would have bought an iPhone.

I did not upgrade to a s6 when it was time for my s5 to be replaced. I went for Note4. Now that Samsung have decided that the whole of Europe doesn't need a Note5 I'll most probably get an A7 which is a slightly backward step but I don't have an upgrade path anymore. The A7 will most probably be my last Samsung phone as Sony make premium phones with an expansion slot that are waterproof.

Samsung really screwed up there.

Once you use the camera on Note 5 you will be disappointed using Note4. It's not the quality, it's the experience using it. Opening gallery from camera feels like taking forever.

Interesting dilemma. I went through this myself a couple of weeks ago. My push toward the Note 4 was the sim card. I wanted a phone that used the Micro Sim Card like my Galaxy S5 as I wanted to be able to switch back and forth between the S5 and the Note. The Note 5 uses a Nano Sim Card.

Then I found out (here at Android Central) about sim adapters and I found the best sim adapter was already in my kit from Tmobile. It is the Trio Sim Card from Tmobile and allows me to easily switch my sim from the Note5 to the S5. I am ecstatic that I didn't have to downgrade to the Note 4. The truth is about the interchangeable battery is that while thought I wouldn't be able to live without an interchangeable battery that was just nonsense when I shined the hard light of reality on the subject.

I had my Galaxy S5 for about a year with one extra battery. Not once in that entire year did I ever need to change the battery. So that knocked the "interchangeable battery deal breaker" out of the picture. Not an issue especially since I picked up a 15,200 mAh power bank by Choe from Amazon. This will do a FAST recharge if needed of my Note5, 5 times on one charge. However, the Note 5 is less power hungry than the Note 4 in the first place. Now the battery issue was truly eliminated.

Then regarding the absence of the micro SD card, I picked up a Dash Micro SD Card Adapter from Amazon for $13. It will adapt up to 128GB micro SD cards to my Note 5 with a tiny accessory that simply plugs into the USB slot. Bingo! There went the so called "micro SD card deal breaker" issue.

Then the only thing remaining that could even remotely be considered a "con" in upgrading from a Note 4 to a Note 5 is the absence of the IR Blaster. Again, for me, this was a non issue. All of my equipment at home is controlled by Logitech WiFi remote control which offers an Android app that works perfectly without IR.

So bottom line is I went with Note 5 and I am very glad that I did. The feel, the horsepower, the improved software - everything is just better on the Note 5. I have no reason to ever look back.

The only valid reason I can see someone might need to go with a Note 4 would be cost. If the prospective buyer cannot afford the Note 5 then by all means, the Note 4 is a good alternative. But all these other BS complaints about the battery, the SD card, etc., are just that - BS.

I believe that the technological advancements on the Note 5 are worth every penny of extra cost over the Note 4. In fact, in my business, the ability to take notes down without having to engage the S Notes app has paid for the cost difference already. I just pop the pen out and start writing, try doing that with any other smart phone on the market, it won't happen.
