Some of my contacts are connected through my device and some are through google. Only the google ones will sync. How can I get the ones connected by device to switch to google without recreating each contact?

Before switching to the Nexus 6P, I would've synced Samsung S5 with Google to ensure Google has the latest contacts. I'm assuming you've signed in your Nexus and set it up to sync Contacts and Calendar. It should be two-way. You could export your contacts from the Samsung and import them in Google. And then have Google delete duplicates.

Contacts > Menu (3 dots) > Move device contacts to... (Select Google). Re-sync your phone to Google after doing this and double check on your PC by going to Google Contacts.

Google sync barely copied 1/3 of my contacts. Fortunately I did Export Contacts to VCF.
