The simple solution that was shown to me by a Samsung Live Chat Agent was to simply turn "USB Debugging" on on my Galaxy S2. Once I did that, my phone was detected, and now my phone is updating to Jelly Bean as we speak!
I have finally gotten Kies to work on my Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion!!
