Android Central Question

When I plug an external mic (trrs) into my Galaxy S8 it takes away the playback audio through my phone speakers completely. I've tried using various apps to manipulate the input/output so that I could use the external mic with the internal speakers of my phone, but none of them have worked. Every time I try to switch only one of them, they both change together; I can't seem to separate the input/output from "Media" volume.

This just seems odd to me that there is no way to simply use an external mic while still having playback audio through the internal speakers of the phone itself. Is this just a smartphone flaw?

Please help.

If the "you're using an external earphone" switch is a mechanical one (rather than sensing the presence of a load on the jack), the switching is caused by inserting a plug into the jack - whether anything is connected to it or not. That's the phone manufacturer's choice, which way to sense that earphones have been plugged in. The jacks are made with the mechanical switch, since they're used for things other than cellphones, so it costs nothing for the manufacturer to design the phone to run the audio through that switch - it costs to design and install sensing circuitry to do it the other way.
