U11 is a superb phone but absolutely has a dated design on the front. Wait for the Plus if that is actually a thing.
Also since I've had my HTC 10 I've received TWO security patches in the 13 months I've had it...
Not good enough from these companies.

Yeah, my unlocked HTC 10(now sim-less WiFi device) has received numerous security patches and I am superbly proud HTC has kept this device up to date!
If I temporarily remove the SIM and then check for updates you reckon I'd see one ready for download?

I have an unlocked HTC U11 that has received numerous updates over the last few months. HTC is pretty good about keep their phones up to date. We should see Oreo in 3-4 months and my guess is that we will get it before Samsung and LG phones.
Compared to the pixel phones, the HTC offers more bang for your buck (SD slot, expanded edge sense functionality, larger screen). It's much cheaper but you do forgo the timely updates and latest Android OS (Oreo), plus an AMOLED screen and a marginally better camera.
For full disclosure, I have a Pixel 2 XL 128 GB on pre-order and what gets me most excited is Google Fi. I'm fed up with ATT not providing support for unlocked phones; it's ridiculous that they can handicap your phone by not offering visual voicemail or wi-fi calling. Google makes life simple.
