I have the Sony Xperia z5 compact....some thoughts

1) Very high build quality
2) While the screen is small it is high dpi (720p but tiny screen) and mostly easy to read-have not tried really bright sun yet (seattle you have to wait for that)
2) Speakers--yes it has front facing speakings, but despite some tweaking and testing, it is not as loud as my samsung galaxy note 5 speaker. This is rather surprising. Obviously nexus 6p is much louder than both.
3) It is sealed so you add microsd card and sim to slots behind a flap on the side. This is much less annoying than the flaps on the sony z3 compact. Microusb on the bottom no longer needs a flap to cover, although they warn you about not trying to plug in if there is obvious water in or near the port.
4) I expected it to get hot during initial setup but it does seem to get hot when playing music or installing a few apps from the play store. More than I would have expected.
5) The fingerprint sensor is nice and well located, but oddly it does not work with lastpass to authenticate, something that even the galaxy note 4 was able to do back in the day. Kind of a bummer
6) I had no issues getting it setup on tmobile, although it will not have voice calling and I can't verify band 12 support (but this model has it-whether tmobile will support it is unclear). In seattle testing on speedtest got me about 30 megabit download and upload--nice strong signal.
7) Camera is decent, although it gives you a warning if you try to shoot 4k video it will shut down if it overheats. This is not a warning that gives me confidence about the much maligned snapdragon 810 cpu.
8) You might need a case just so you don't notice the heat so much. It is a small phone so not much way to dissipate the heat.
9) have not tested the waterproofing...but nice to have

currently torn on keeping it or not, as 4.6 inches is nice but small-even for my slightly above average hands. Perhaps I've gotten so used to galaxy note 5 everything feels smaller.

If only the note 5 had a 128 gig storage option or a microsd slot. Ugh.

I am using mine on AT&T.. I previously had the Z3 and the Z3C.

To your points:

1. Agree. Build quality is solid!
2. I find the screen to be clear and good looking. Sure it's 720p and spec warriors won't like that # but I have zero issues as far as screen quality & clarity goes.
2a. The speakers are actually pretty darn good. I compared it to my Nexus 5X and the Z5C demolishes it..
3. Agree. I really like the new design over the Z3C.
4. Mine has gotten warm a few times but never hot. It's actually fairly cool to the touch overall.
5. I do not use lastpass but I find the fingerprint reader to be stellar! I like the location, it's accurate and lightning fast!
6. I am on AT&T and it's working fine for me. I live in the desert and time will tell come summer how it does in the bright desert sun. I so far have no screen readability issues when outside.
7. I can care less about shooting in 4K and the camera has been fine for me. The Sony camera update fixed the previous lag and other issues that some had with it.
8. As previously stated, I have no heat issues whatsoever! None, nadda, zero, zilch!
9. I am not going to test it.. LOL but I agree it's nice to have.

Mine is not going anywhere as I love this phone. I am not into the ginormous phones and the Z5C size is perfect! I ditched the Sony launcher and replaced it with the Google Now launcher. I also deleted and disabled all the bloat. The phone is lightning fast, the fingerprint reader is accurate and lightning fast and the build quality is above average in my opinion.

I've seen this pattern a lot - one user complains about abnormal heat and others (including fairly detailed reviews) refute. I'm starting to suspect there is a flaw in a subset of Z5C's, either a problem with the manufacturing process (ie one employee on the line who doesn't know how to properly apply thermal paste) or a bad batch of components (most non-Sony parts are likely sourced from multiple vendors, so one may be providing out of spec or faulty parts that cause over heating). I've seen too many users complaining about heat (and not just from 4k recording or heavy game playing, which would be expected), to just wave it off as overly sensitive posters or something.

Despite that, I held my nose and placed my order today, as there simply aren't any other sub-5" phones with 'decent' specs (I put decent in quotes because the 2gb RAM downgrade from the Z5 pisses me off no-end). Here's hoping I get one of the ones which run cooler.

I also wonder if some of the Z5C didn't get the early version of the SD 810. There is a newer SD 810 which is version 2.1, that supposedly runs cooler than the original.

I have not dug to deep into it, but that could be why some phones with the 810 run hot whereas others don't..

Mine is pretty cool for the most part. It does get warm when I push it but it's never gotten what I'd consider to he hot.

I also wonder if the heat issues are region specific.. like phones in uk vs Hong Kong?

the supply chains could be different and so the qa/qc could be different?

I receive band 12 in Denver. It seems to choose that band last. There is no VoLte. If I'm in band 12, I miss calls so if I know I'll be on 12 only, I disable the lte.

I'm an older hold-out but I've finally given in to the lure of shiny new. My 9350 curve is a very solid phone but ... well with a new LTE tower and a touch of phone envy here I am.

Is there anyway to tell which version is in the mail?

only four more sleeps!

:)

Not unless the seller has the info from the box.. When you get it, look on the box for the SI # and the rev #.. I believe everything shipping recently is rev 2 which I believe has the updated 810..

The Si # will tell you what region your device is from..

I think you'll be happy with it.. I love mine and am still 110% pleased with my purchase.

Look for 'Fulfillment by Amazon' and you will be fine.. That means Amazon already has it in their warehouse and they are actually the ones who ship it to you..

Mine was fulfilled by Amazon but the seller was DeltaMobiles..

I agree. The finger print sensor is brilliant in location. Unfortunately it doesn't come close to standing against other manufacturers implementation.

Mine definitely has heat issues. Never mind 4k... it overheated in a couple of minutes capturing 720p video the other day.

I'm probably stuck with it, got it at linio.com.mx, some sub-par webshop that lured me in with a $100 coupon :(
