This is for the HTC Sensation, which, with the exception of less ram is pretty much identical hardware wise to the Evo 3d.

Here is a video that includes a running of the test. Do yourselves a favor and don't pause it to look at the result.

I thought the Quadrant scores were the only bad ones, looks like Smartbench doesn't look any better either. Linpack is about the only bright spot where the Sensation bests the SGS2 in most tests by a minor margin.

I know, they are just stupid benchmarks, but so many of them showing rather poor scores seems discouraging for me. I hope this is mostly a driver problem and that HTC will get that under control, otherwise, these scores will lead to some increasingly negative press.

I was hoping it was going to be the rocket ship that blows the competion away...but apparently not. And before anyone says anything about lower resolution of the other phones, just compare its score to the Atrix which runs on a Tegra 2 and on qHD.

I would be more concerned if the dev platform for this chipset hadn't performed great on a whole suite of benchmarks at anandtech. If htc has killed the performance somehow the rom devs will fix it.

You CANNOT compare the score of different phones with different specs. They are seriously not comparable.

Oh, and the Atrix is not a good comparison. It uses the Pentile matrix, so it has less subpixels. The screen on the Sensation has three, while the Atrix only has two. (and the Sensation has 30% more total pixels than the GS2) That will make an impact on the 3D score, since the phone is having to work harder to fill those extra pixels.

Also, the Quadrant test for the released Sensation hovers from 2,200 to 2,600, which is in line with other dual core phones. In addition, the test isn't yet optimized for dual core, and especially the newer chipsets. (on dual core phones Quadrant only reads one core and doesn't read the clock speed or any other relevant information)

Benchmarks are fine for geeks, but they really don't matter. I have it installed on my G2X because I've been playing around with leaked ROMs, etc. and wanted to see the difference. But when I get my Sensation Quadrant will be conspicuously missing.

There is a hands on video of the Sensation on wifi and its crap. Android Central takes like 12 seconds to fully load and the Ironman 2 trailer buffered for like 15 seconds. My Nexus S 4G is faster than that.

huh? what internet speed have to do w/ cpu/gpu performance? you don't know the wifi speed at Phil's house, he could have like 5 computers, a couple tablets and a couple phones on it lol. plus that was loading the trailer form a htc's movie service which you don't have on your Nexus S.

I would think a reviewer for a well known source would be smart enough to know not to have a bunch of things on a wifi network while trying to show off a devices speed. If a movie service is going to lag that bad just playing a preview, I am very glad its not on my phone haha. The Atrix has been getting bashed for being slow too. You can thank all the bloatware from the manufacturer and carrier....

Wow..that super AMOLDED+ screen has me kinda wanting a samsung device...sigh
The sensation's screen just looks awful (in comparison). I'm sure it looks better in person and not measured against another device.

Droid800,

Thanks for the additional insight. I have been trying to figure what's going on for a while.

What does a Nexus S and it's ability to stream a movie trailer have anything to do with what I just posted? And the Android Central quick review of the Sensation was obviously not done by Phil, or in his house, that was the british bloke who's also a remember of the AC crew.

Yeah, SAMOLED screens do look nice, but to me the super poppy colors along with the Touchwhiz UI just look too cartoony. I wish every phone had blacks that dark though! The Sensation is also known for having terrible viewing angles, I saw a video comparison between it and the Incredible 2, and the Inc2 looked way better at more angles.

Hopefully all those benchmarking programs get a major overhaul to correctly take advantage of each new processors capabilities. Because right now they just worry potential customers like me and cause bad press for handset makers.

Do you have any idea how much RAM helps out in a benchmark test?

Apparently not that much. One of the members in the forum got his hands on an Evo 3d last week I believe at some trade show, and he was able to run Quadrant on it, the scores were pretty much identical to what a Sensation produced.

It makes a huge difference on a PC, so I'll have to get my hands on one next week and check it out. We're supposed to get 2 of them to mess around with for a week.

Sweet! You work at RS? BB? Sprint? First thing to check please, how much internal memory do we get to play with to install apps? The 500 MB or whatever it was on the Evo4G limits the amount of stuff I want to install severely, even after cleaning all cache and going through the list making sure any app that allows Apps2SD takes advantage of it.

That would be very much appreciated!

Which has zero to do with what's being discussed here.

Here is another Video of a british guy comparing the two.

The Sensation in this video does much better in Smartbench than the one in the one I posted originally. It actually double the productivity score from 1300 to 2600, the Game score stays roughly the same.

How does the sensation have the better battery life. I've heard that the s2 has incredible battery life.

I've heard a few different things about the SII, and they all vary widely.

The Sensation, however, I've heard has great battery life. Engadget's review had their unit at 30% battery life after being unplugged for 26 hours, with moderate syncing. They also said that it was clearly better at power management when idle compared to the SGII.

The Evo 3D's battery life will not be comparable, unfortunately, thanks to the WiMax radio. The Sensation sips juice thanks to the HSPA+ radio.

Hopefully you can turn 4G off like on the EVO.

Wow, look at how much nicer the SG2 screen is, especially 4:42-5:02. Crisp and vibrant colors while the Sensation looks just like the Evo and 3Ds, washed out and dull.

1. The Sensation's screen is not dull and washed out.

2. If you like the SGII so much, go pollute their threads. This is about the 3D, not about how much better the SGII is.
