I know we're not getting Froyo anytime soon but weren't we supposed to get an update?

Title says it all....I am overall loving my Incredible, but the little minor bugs are a bit annoying. Seems the other newer Droids are getting updates, are we becoming red headed stepchildren?

Yes. And it was confirmed IIRC -- some people even got it. But the story goes that VZW killed it and decided to roll it into the Froyo update -- one fewer update to roll out (< $$).

Becoming? Been the RHSS since day one....

the update that was "rumored" was scratched due to newer software versions that supported the LCD incredibles which are supposed to be coming soon. this is based on change logs, not rumors or articles anywhere on the internet. so don't ask for a source because i can't provide change logs without people i care about getting canned.

was supposed to be coming soon, like before the end of the month, but no word on the progress of this most recent build, as i know new info about it i usually jump in somewhere on this topic of discussion and share.

No, patches, he's not talking about the 8/23 (EDIT: I mean 8/18) froyo update -- he's talking about the OTA patch for 2.1 that was leaked/partially released in July. It included some bug fixes and 720p recording (EDIT: and that cool new boot screen). At least I think that's what he's talking about...

Kyle Gibb talked about it here.

yeah, that's part of the OTA...it got scrapped and they went to froyo, why do two updates when you can do one that includes both things?

keep in mind how gigantic of a task rolling out an OTA is...

btw "patch", and "whole OS", only difference is the size of the file. it's still just as difficult.

and 8/23 was never confirmed, idk why people even put stock in unsubstantiated rumors like that. i hear it first hand and i still have a hard time believing it, even when i get the "green light, ota in a few days" txt message. you don't know how many times an OTA gets scrapped due to server issues, and comes out a week later. lol!

I didn't mean to suggest 8/18 (I put 23rd, but I meant 18th -- shannon has me all confused...) was ever anything more than a rumor (one I never bought) -- just that the "update" he was talking about was not the "update" that some were expecting on the 18th.

I take Doug's point, though. At this point, it's easy to feel like we are owed at least the original patch (regardless of difficulty). We know they have it, we know it works, and we know they pushed it to at least some users. While it makes sense for them to do one OTA instead of two, if what you say is correct, then we are now at 45 days and counting waiting on features that work on our phones now, all so Verizon can be sure that those features work on phones that are still TBA. It just smacks as being a little unfair.

Thank you, that was the one I was referring to.

pacthes didn't you say that there was an update on the horizon? i think it was about root you said do it now you have a bout a week left or something to that extent. not flaming just wondering if you have any news on that. I.E. it got scrapped again or something.

you know, what's interesting concerning all the talk about updates when and if they're coming or not is simply this verizon ,sprint/nextel,at&t ,t-mobile are not in the least concerned rather or not we as customer's get ''updates'' as they are with selling phones ,plans and all the other fluff
ever notice how many phones are released with ''old software'' promising ''new updated fixes'' ......alway's at a later date ......bah

no new news, it was scheduled to test for only a week, maybe a little more. never got a concrete "end" date for that, but i'd say the end of this week if i don't hear whether it passed or not, i'm gonna assume it failed. no news is usually bad news, in this case.

as far as what doc said, i agree. it seems like the main concern is the "sale" of the device, support is merely an afterthought. however, i personally, i appreciate that vzw tests the crap outta everything. i'd rather have builds not worthy of my phone fail than have 'em pushed, then take forever to get the next update, then possibly have that one NOT work and go through it all over again (coughstormcough)

I'd be happy if they would just do the maintenance update then

As far as froyo goes I'm not holding my breathe that the incredible will ever get an official version of it

yeah i agree with the no news lol, i remember those storm days, haha lycridal hybrid were the best thing that happened to the storm. but all well enough of that talk. hopefully we dont have to relive those days and that build will pass, i mean i already rooted but id rather have an official rom then a makeshift, not knocking the guys at skyraider because they did a phenomenal job.

It's just one of those things we as Droid Incredible owners are just going to have to deal with. At some point the phone will get FroYo. But I rather they get as many bugs out of the code as possible. I don't want my beautiful phone turned into a beautiful paperweight brick! I can just imagine after we get FroYo, the people clamoring for Gingerbread, which I think the DInc currently fits those minimal specs for. But that could change at anytime. Patience, everyone, is a virtue.

They have had Froyo for 3 months now, sent it out to Droid 1s, which is cool since they jumped in first. But totally NOT cool to give it to EVO before us!! They got their phone in early June, we should have been before them. I talked to a Verizon rep today who said the OTA will be from HTC, not Verizon (I didn't buy it). I started *****ing on Twitter about it, then I got an e-mail telling me that Verizon is "following me" on twitter. So I've taken advantage of this by ranting daily about not having 2.2. Sure I could Root my Dinc, but why possibly risk my warantee, besides now its the principle of it.

each carrier is responsible for testing and releasing the OS. so the evo being on a different carrier has no bearing on when they vs. us get the update. apples and oranges. "not fair" doesn't play into it.

not to be rude, but how is complaining on twitter going to make the testers work any faster or slower? they will do their job as they're supposed to, regardless of how you feel about it. however, i appreciate your enthusiasm and i'm right there with you. i had froyo on my rooted eris before i got my incredible, however it was vanilla. but it was everything i wanted. going back to 2.1 was like stepping back in time almost. it wasn't a major overhaul, it was subtle things. the market, ringer and alert settings, gmail app, etc....just lots of small things that subtly made the phone a lot better. it's most definitely worth the wait, especially considering the kind of bugs and flaws these roms have. i won't load any of 'em.

I'm actually glad that they are doing extensive testing to insure it will work properly and not stuck with a half usable phone and also so that we don't have the same issues the EVO had when that update launched (though I think it was more of a problem of people downloading the wrong build?)

I'll keep enjoying my phone as is and once the update comes out, it will make the phone that much better.

got to agree with patches here. i dont think kicking and screaming would make a blind bit of difference. the people who could/would take any interest in a mass amount of complaints have bigger issues to deal with - like the THOUSANDS of people waiting on their ordered Inc's to arrive and clearing a massive virtual inventory (which isnt/wasnt their fault).
beating up on a carrier who never actually committed to any date/info of any kind is just beating a dead horse.
froyo will come. and soon. and if you cant wait a few days then all the enrgy you spend whining could be channeled into rooting your phone and rocking skyraider. which is the absolute NUTS by the way.

Each to his own.....but I haven't heard or seen ANY reliable information from anyone on this site or any other site as far as updates are concerned. The information that ends up coming from reliable sources, IE front page of this site, is information from known sources as HTC, Verizon, or unknown "trusted" leakers. I have never seen anyone from a forum say, "update starts rolling out tomorrow", and it actually happen. I know people inside Verizon myself, and the testers know about as much as the tiered tech support guys. Everything is compartmentalized to the point that their boss may say, "yup ready to go" and it not happen for whatever reason because another section of those testers has found something or it didn't pass QA / QC for some reason. So until I see someone in a forum go, "it rolls out on this date" and it happen everything is not trust worthy coming from internet articles, "inside sources", friends, family, my brothers friends sister......I think you get the point. Some people feel the need to have attention, or to be placed in a higher position than the average forum user, or they have the compulsive need to rile things up. Some people actually have people they know inside Verizon, and their friends want them to think they are more important than what they really are and push hear say from inside the network themselves.

Also as far as you not loading ROMs because of all the issues they have....care to share what 'issues' you know about that I don't? Been running Skyraider since 2.0 and haven't had nary an issue. Especially on 2.5.2 everything works, it's fast, no force closes, notifications work, sounds etc. So please share what you know, that is a ROM issue, and not a user issue.

In the end, if you want it now you know what to do. When the official comes out, if you still want it then, then roll back factory and do the update. It's pretty pointless to keep posting the same ole' story over and over and over and when that date or time frame comes and passes start a new thread for the same ole' story to start back up again......and this isn't pointed at Patches, just his post caught my eye so if you take it wrong don't it isn't intended that way it's just getting tiring to see new posts in this forum that is the same topic over and over with a different title.

Oh and btw I heard they are pushing Froyo out by Christmas......I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend......./sarcasm

I agree 100%, I jumped on with 2.5.2, it truly is rediculous. Fast, crisp and no bugs unless i am doing something wrong. Now instead of waiting for christmas to come filled with froyo anxiety I only have to wait untill later today for 3.0...jump on and ROOT
