I don't believe they were getting a headache because the PWM was only 240hz. I was getting a headache using my Pixel 6 Pro until I locked the PMW to 120hz. I think what gives users the headache is the VRR, when the PMW is stable your eyes don't have to constantly adjust.

It's almost like pwm sickness is a completely fictional condition with no scientific basis whatsoever behind it being pushed by hypochondriacs who can't even be consistent about their symptoms. Weird!!!

It's very simple. The flashing light causes your pupils to constantly dilate, getting fatigued and strained. Not that weird. But yeah agreed, that article was pretty B.S. since they never bothered to follow up on it.
