In April 2019, I bought an S10 from AT&T. When I used it, a 5G icon showed in the upper right hand corner.

Fast forward to 2022. Instead of having battery replaced in the S10, I got a new phone and sold the S10 on eBay.

Now, I'm told by the buyer that it isn't a 5g phone.

So why the heck did it show the 5g icon?

I'm perturbed. And quite possibly I'm also a doofus.

Anyone able to correct me?

First, do you remember if it was actually an S10 5G? There was an S10 that didn't have 5G. Before AT&T even started rolling out their true 5G network, they rebranded their 4G as "5Ge," so is that what you might have seen?

Also, is the buyer using it on AT&T, or another carrier/

Oh crap. I'll bet it was the first model, because we got these at the very beginning of the AT&T 5g push. I sent the box and manuals etc with the phone, so I can't answer your question to either of our satisfaction.
They are using it on ATT, but are apparently out on the middle of nowhere.

AT&T is shady. They called their improved 3G network 4G before they had LTE and did similar with 5G before having actual 5G.

You could ask them to look in the Settings>About Phone menu and see which model number it is. The S10 without 5G is SM-G973, while the S10 5G is SM-G977: https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-model-number-sm-g970-g973-g975-g977-differences/

I found a picture of the phone settings. Yep.... It's SM-G973

Thank you for your assistance! If you'll excuse you, I've got an eBay auction I have to reverse.
