Hi, so about two weeks I got my nexus 7, and it was love at first use. It was especially great for use when the two places I use it the most right now (home and work) have WiFi that I can use and stream both music and videos. In a few days I am going on a trip and would love to put some movies on it to watch on the flights. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how! I tried to connect it to my Macbook but it doesn't show up nor does it even charge (this may actually be a problem with my Mac only). I can transfer files via Bluetooth but I can't figure out how to even open the video. What program is the best for this?

There is also a sound problem; an amplification problem. With Netflix I have to put the volume ALL the way up to hear it well and also with hulu plus and nbo go. I have this problem less so with Pandora or spotify. I am using cheap 10 buck ear buds so its not like they require a lot of amplification like my AKG professional headphones do, which I have an external amplifier for (connects and overrides volume on iPod but also connects through headphone jack), that works for the cheap ear buds but it is obnoxious to have to use that all the time. Anything that can be done about the amplification problem?

These are my main need-help-now problems but I know there will be more.
Please help me!

Thought of another one! How do I get flash player on this? I would love a decent, simple explanation of what I have to do to get flash player.

Thanks to anyone who helps!

You can sideload the flash player app, and it works perfect. Just google it and find a reputable site that has an .apk for download.

I will start with a couple of simple things. First and foremost, your Nexus 7 supports many different encoding and file formats for movies. You have to make sure that you are rendering your final output as something that the Nexus can play using the Gallery and Video App that is built in (or download your favorite app). In the wonderful world of "other systems besides Apple," the drivers are all common and plugging in your device via USB should load the driver and your device can be set as a media device. Then you just drag and drop your files (movies) into the directory of your choosing. It couldn't be easier. The one thing that is missing from the stock Nexus is a File Manager. There are plenty of free ones from the Google Play store. I use a very common one ... ES File Manager or something like that.

Next. Not all USBs carry enough juice to charge devices. If my memory serves me right, the Nexus can charge as low as .5 amp albeit very slowly.

Next. Not all buds are made the same especially if you are using buds with an in-line MIC for an iPhone or Samsung S3. Just be aware that anything with an in-line MIC becomes a crap-shoot at times. If it's just audio buds, then I would find another option to test and see (a friend or a local retailer who has opened stock).

NetFlix is notorious for wonky "everything" although they have the best streaming "secret sauce" algorithm in the business. But, audio stream seems to be the culprit for many problems especially in high latency, low bandwidth environments. Sometimes they rob Peter to pay Paul. In other words, they cannibalize the audio to make sure there is umph for a quality video experience. There is a lot to that statement that is very technical. Does your ISP support NetFlix Open-Connect... Do you have 802.11 G or N... are you trying NetFlix in public hotspot or at home...

Finally... Flash. Well, that's another story. Use the Search function here in the forums and prepare yourself. It's not simply load the app... Sorry about that. When will Flash die? Not soon enough evidently.

As to the connection problem.... first thing I would do is try another cable. Maybe you just have a wonky one.
Second: check USB connection settings on the N7... you want Media Device to be checked off
[Third: as it says there in settings, you need to use AFT on a Mac]

use airdroid app to connect to mac wirelesly. i am recommending this because its very easy and work flawlessly.
mac connection via USb has always had issue on way or the other

both Zapflashgone and oldAge touch on this above:
to transfer files via usb with an apple computer you need the "android file transfer app" for the mac.
Android.com

You probably also want a file manager program on the N7 such as the above mentioned ES File Manager, and a media player app like MoboPlayer or MX player.

Regarding the charging, the usb cable charges at a slower rate than the wall outlet charger. Depending on what apps are running on the N7 while plugged into the usb It is possible that it's using as much juice as it is drawing, and thus doesn't seem to be charging. Or, on the white polycarb MacBooks newer than 2007: "Unlike early MacBooks, where every USB port could provide 500 mA of power, only one USB port provides full power - the port closer to the front." (from 13" MacBook Core 2 (Late 2007))

good luck.
