I need help with my g1!!!!

So I bought a G1 from some guy off of craigslist, and so I didn't want all his stuff that he left on his phone so I did a factory reset. So when I turn on my G1, it says that I need to activate it by putting in my email from google (the gmail sign up thingy at the very BEGINNING!). I don't have data plan so I can't get past the very beginning!!! how can I get past it?!?! I can't sign up for the internet because I just don't have the extra money a month.. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO SKIP THAT PART!

No I did the exact same thing. If you put in a new simcard it should connect to the web and allow you in. Otherwise you have to add the data plan, or root it which I don't know how to do that.

Easy just find a friend who does have a data plan, activate it and then put your sim card in.

activate stock G1 over wifi

I just recently got an epic, so I decided to root my g1, and ran into the same problem. I was able to get it to work following these instructions from getyourandroidon. It took me a couple times to get it work.
