I have a motorola google phone that slides open sideways. i bought it from a friend who forgot the password. i tried the hard reset and it diddnt work. is there any other way to reset the phone?

First off, wrong forum, which doesn't really matter considering you don't know what device you even have.

If your friend had the setting activated you should be able (screen on at the lock screen) push the back button and volume down button. Not sure if this was there on the older ones. The only other way I know of is to possibly go the the adb process. You should be able to login with your friends gmail after a certain number of attempts, and then theres this app: Screenlock Bypass Pro.
Not sure if you can enter recovery without root.
