I opened an email that I think contained a virus. What can I use to scan my phone for a virus? I have the Samsung Note 10+. It does not have the built in anti malware scan that I have seen youtube videos for. What is the best scanner out there that will actually find and remove any infection on my phone?

TYIA!

Welcome to Android Central! Just because you opened the email doesn't mean the phone is infected. The vast majority of malware on Android needs your permission to install -- simply opening an email usually won't cause problems.

If you're concerned, try Malwarebytes. Also make sure Google Play Protect is turned on.

It was from Paypal saying my account was at risk and I needed to change my password. I opened the pdf. I know....I shouldn't have opened the pdf, but I have been working with Paypal on another matter yesterday so I thought it was related. I realized after the fact that it was a hacker.

By the way, I am the OP for that "I opened an email that I think contained a virus." question. I just wasn't logged in when I asked it. Thanks for the responses!

Are you sure it was a PDF? That kind of phishing email typically lures you to a site that masquerade as the legitimate site, with a field for you to type in your old password. As long as you didn't enter your password anywhere, you should be fine.

This is what it looked like....
Darn I can't attach screenshots.

Delete it completely, check download folder for more damaged files, delete any if found.
Delete trash bin items then.
Download Stubborn Trojan Killer and Trojan Scanner from Playstore in addition to Malwarebytes, scan.

Power off and go into the boot menu, clear System Cache, reboot back and see how it runs.
Unfortunately while it's very hard to infect an Android, opening a bad download (including jpegs) can do it.

If that fake PayPal letter on the right of your screen is the PDF, then I don't think you have to worry. The danger would be tapping that big Verify link, which would probably take you to a fake PayPal site asking for your password.

i agree , dont think OP should worry much

I agree you should be fine, but several things stand out that you should look for next time.

First, the return email address in <...> after the "PayPalService" is a big tip-off.

The other is the name logo in the PDF, it's the wrong font (hook on the tail of the "y" and the angle too great), and companies/corporations tend to be real strict with their branding and how it looks.

Haha I couldn't find stubborn Trojan killer in the play store but I did download Trojan scanner.

Right thread or wrong thread I'm still going to use it!
