I put a passcode on my S5 but when I lock the phone and turn it on, it doesn't ask for the passcode. What is going on?

i put passcode on my s5 but when i lock the phone and turn it on, it doesnt ask for the passcode

i put password on my s5 at&t and the password doesnt show up i click the sleep button and and click it again to turn the phone on and when it turns on it doesnt ask for the pass it only says "swipe to unlock" help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lock screen is set to lock after a certain amount of time (the screen timeout time). You can change that to lock when you turn the screen off manually.
