I finally just did it. i was trying to wait for simple root to come out without having to revert to 2.1 but whatever i used the new unrevoked3.

Im loving the root apps up.. you have no idea.. thanks to titanium no more bloatware :)

granite its not a super duper root its been everything i have wanted.
:rolleyes: hopefully this doesnt backfire in my face somehow but as for now im happy with my decision.

anyone know how to unroot unrevoked just incase?! ( i dont need an explanation just a sticky of a link of instructions would be highly appreciated)

i'm a little confused with reading about unrevoked 3.21.
I keep seeing the terms 'reflash' and 'recovery image' in my head i'm thinking reflash is a fresh ROM?
does this revert your phone back to factory settings? IE remove user data and settings or does it strictly just unlock the phone?

I've been waiting a long time to root but i want to keep all my settings and just remove apps and be able to use certain kernals.

Thank you

Maybe now you should try out a couple roms. Cm6 gives you free mobile hotspot but does not have sense.

The current version of unrevoked 3.21 will root your EVO (both Android 2.1 and Android 2.2) and WILL NOT perform a hard reset and wipe your phone. I used it to root my wife's EVO after we performed the Froyo 2.2 upgrade and it left all of her applications and setting in tack.

Tom

So I did it, too... I think. How do I know if I'm rooted? I tried to uninstall Nascar to see if it worked, and the "uninstall" button is greyed out.

Download root explorer and use that to delete the apk.

Went to unrevoked website, I feel stupid I have no clue where to start. Do I just down load the program and install it on the phone or the PC ...... Or do I install the usb driver for windows 1st......???????

Yup it left everything in my setting the same. I just get to use root apps :)

If you open up your applications after doing the prcoess correctly it should should have a ninja looking app caled superuser acess. If you want to uninstall nascar apps or any other bloatware you should download titatnium backup and from there you can do anything you want to with the apps.

Looks like it works. By the way, Titanium Backup would only work after I went to the market and downloaded/installed BusyBox.

Now I get to read up on the hundreds of pages on what to do after I have a rooted phone.

Seriously checkout cm6. Its the best rom I've used yet. Free mobile hotspots is awesome.

Total n00b question when it comes to rooting but with this new Unrevoked, Can I leave my EVO with FroYo as is without installing a new custom rom? The only reason I want to root is to remove Bloatware and use ShootMe.

Yes, running Unrevoked will leave your Froyo 2.2 and your apps and settings in tack and simply root your phone.

I use unrevoked last night too. Is there any way to get free mobile hotspots without having to use a different ROM? I've installed Wireless Tether for Root Users but I can't get Windows 7 or Mac OS X computers to get an internet connection. Is it cause I'm only on the stock 2.2 ROM?

I just installed the free mobile hotspot (from the sticky thread) on stock 2.2, and it works great. Don't need to run a ROM to get it. Plus I've managed to uninstall some of the bloatware (Sprint Nav, Friend Stream, Peep, etc.) by using Titanium Backup.

I know there are reasons to check out ROMs, but I'm happy for now. :)

Everyone says it is easy but it looks too complicated -- install 2 programs, hold switches up and down etc. Is there any REALLY easy to root? I only want to be able to install a few programs and change a few settings (Backup, roam only, a few others.) On the Pre people figured out how to install patches without actually rooting the phone. Can't someone do that for the Evo?
