I have sc2.9, I hit the download button by mistake. I couldn't get out of it. I didn't want to unplug the battery. so I tried odin to flash sc2.9 again. But it failed.
So then I unplug the battery, since I was stuck.

and now I stuck with a screen that has a picture of a white cellophone and orange exclamation mark and a computer.

basically saying it can't communicate with my computer.

anything i can do?

ahhhh I made big mistake...

It sounds like just a soft brick, but those that know better than I will help (I will see if I can find the post for you).

Don't worry, I do not think the phone is done....

I did this once and recovered. You will be fine. Take a breath and someone more knowledgeable than me will be along soon to help you. It is correctable. :)

I would offer to help, but youwould be far better off waiting for one of the masters like droidxcon. I wouldn't want to tell you wrong and make it worse.

If it males you feel better, I have soft bricked three different ways and gotten back each time. This phone is difficult to hard brick.

With the battery out of phone, open ODIN on computer, hold volume down button on phone, connect phone to computer with usb cable for phone, after yellow rectangle appears in ODIN, reflash 2.9 ODIN file.

not to hijack, but the first time I got this I panicked (only had the phone about 3 hours didnt realize how great the guru's around here were) and took the phone back..unnecessary move...

DX always says first, dont panic...lol

That's why I love this phone! Its practically unbrickable!

I returned a bricked phone once after I was trying some stuff with Tasker. (this was pre-root or even any vague clue about it for me) Verizon couldn't fix it so I got a new phone. At the time I didn't know you cold un-brick them.

I choked big time. My wife had just gotten it for me and i was like "oh crap, broke it already!"

Blamed it on an OTA update to fix the GPS, which had some legitimacy (found a crappy post in a crappy forum somewhere that alluded to it) so I was safe. Did try to root or anything for a few weeks after that one....

I had power to the phone(or battery had power), now I have no power this morning. Even when I plug it in with or without battery. I didn't even mess with it last night, I was waiting for some guidance.

i don't get the white phone and computer icon with the orange exclamation anymore. I have no power to this phone. its black.

odin or windows isn't picking up anything in my usb drive.

you think I need another charged battery, then follow your directions?

Why were you waiting for guidance? I answered you in 19 minutes. You only need the power the computer will supply through the usb cable in order to run ODIN. Open ODIN on your computer, plug the large end of your usb cable into the computer, MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS OUT OF YOUR PHONE, hold down the down volume button, plug the small end of the usb cable into your phone. Yellow triangle will appear on your phone, continue holding volume down button for another second or so until yellow rectangle appears in ODIN, run 2.9 tar file in the PDA section of ODIN. When done and you get the green SUCCESS!! message in ODIN, close ODIN, pull usb cable, put battery back in phone, plug usb into ac adapter, plug that into wall outlet, plug phone in, let it charge for a while, power on phone.

I actually did something similair last night, went to hit reboot, but I hit download instead,i was pretty drunk last night, do I decided to just leave my phone in download mode till this morning. Well when I woke up, my battery was of course, dead. And my phone, after a bit of a charge, came right back on.

So yeah, if this happens to anyone else, you have the option of just leaving it in download mode till the battery does, when you power it back on, you shouldn't have any problems, yay for happy accidents!
I'm running super clean 2 9 2, I just haven't had time to update my profile

Nice. Has everyone noticed some of our most stupid mistakes and funniest stories always seem to happen when we're pretty drunk? :p

I'm out in the sticks and posted from a wifi hotspot, so I had to wait until this morning.

but get this!?!

I went to best buy this morning and used my upgrade (unfortunately) , got another fascinate. it said $50 online with upgrade, but was a free today in the store, had to pay sales tax about $50.

but anyway get home, try to flash the new phone, and it won't work. I'm like what the hell is going on.... turns out I was flashing with the my usb cord, it went bad somehow...

So now I have 2 phones flashed and they both work. only the new with service though, since each phone needs a data plan. mehhh!

soft brick a phone and then compound it with the usb going bad, dang!

and thanks landshark for the help! totally worked fixed the old phone in a few minutes...

and android market totally remembered all my apps i had downloaded, that was awesome!

When you go into download mode, you can just pull the battery and reboot without any ill effects. Even though it says "do not turn off target," if you aren't in the middle of flashing something you have nothing to worry about.
