I think I'm going to pickup a Razr tomorrow.

I've got my Galaxy Nexus all packed up and ready to either ship back to VZW or maybe just go exchange for a Razr tomorrow.

Just had a question about the razr, when they first came out there was an issue with the screen being "blotchy" or something like that. Was that issue ever resolved?

I am really anxious to get this phone and my wife even got me a couple cases and some screen protectors for it.

If it is pixelation you are referring to, that is just a function of the pentile screen. I think there are some rendering techniques to help reduce this effect, but I am sure the phone already uses them. The best thing to do to reduce pixelation is to up the resolution of the screen, which is what Sammy has done with the GNex to reduce this effect. No way to up the resolution on the Razr of course since that is a function of the hardware.

I personally didn't notice it when I looked at the 2 side by side. However, my eyesight sucks. YMMV. Just take a look at the display models and see if you can tell a difference.

Best way is to decide side by side at the store . The one thing you'll immediately notice is the solid build of the Razr. That was one of the points that helped me to decide to keep the Razr instead of returning for a GN.

Let's face it, aside from ICS, these phones are extremely close is hardware and features Razr had Bluetooth 4.0 vs the GN's 3.0 and the GN has NFC (which wasn't important to me since I would never use it).

As for resolution, I learned from researching HDTV's that the smaller the screen the less a higher resolution plays a part. If that's the case on a 32", imagine what it would mean on a 4.3" screen.

I pulled up several different videos on both phones and played them side by side and saw no noticeable difference.

Screen still has the blotches. I havent seen a Razr without one its just some are worse than others. Mine you cant see unless it displays a all black backround. My Gnex i haven't seen any but i haven't displayed a all black backround but i expect it has it aswell since it seems to be very common with the screens.

I got the Gnex and Razer im currently using the Gnex for a few more days my first was a huge letdown sucked the batt. and couldn't get a signal. The new one gets a "ok" signal and is better on the batt. but the Razr still gets and holds a signal much much much better. I had a few droped data connections with the GNex where as the Razr has not.

Using both i do like the Gnex's cam better even after the Razrs OTA. Its just way faster at taking pics and up close pics are sharper and clearer where normal pictures at the same distance are pretty much the same in terms of sharpness.

There both great phones. The Razr wont disappoint you. However the Pentile display kinda sucks the highest ppi on the Gnex helps hide the pentile problems but the razr looks pretty good still. My invisasheild i think magnified the problem.

yeah the "blotchy" screen I was thinking about was the issue on an all black background.

I loved the screen on the Nexus, although the colors seemed a bit too bright or unnatural, if you will.

My biggest gripe with the Nexus was that as of right now, many of the apps I used were causing reboots with ICS. I am sure down the road in a few months when more phones have ICS this wont be an issue.

I know on my DX2, when playing a game like Angry Birds you would notice a very obvious ghosting or shadowing following behind the rapidly moving image (in this case a bird)..... does that occur with the Razr as well?

So far every app i loaded on it has not caused any problems on my Gnex.

I havent seen any ghosting on either the Gnex or Razr and i tested out Angry birds and GTA III

It's still present. After examining many Samsung amoled devices, I've noticed that blacks seem to be darker on the Samsungs. The blotches are present on those devices as well but much, much harder to notice.

It's a samoled thing thought, not a defect. If they don't stand out and annoy the heck out of you, it probably won't be a problem.

I haven't noticed any blotches on my RAZR since I got it at launch. I don't think the phone will let you down.

I switched from the Gnex myself and can say, at least for myself, the grass is greener on the other side. The Razr is a better looking, feeling, performing phone than the Galaxy Nexus and if you use speakerphone or your phone as an alarm clock just go ahead and forget about the Gnex, even with volume+ the speaker is WAY to quiet whereas the Razr is above average by a good amount.

The only issue I'm having with my Razr is connection related and possible a poor display (lemon) a trip to my Verizon store for comparison will let me know if its truly defective or just how the Razr is.

The only thing the Razr is missing is ICS which we will have shortly and to be honest I can't even think of the specific features I am missing.

I recommend trying both for as long ad you van before deciding. Either way they both are nice phones and should make you happy.

I've had zero issues as well with mine. I'm still in the transition phase from my Blackberry, but I'm liking the Razr.

What Blackberry did you move over from? I still have my Bold with T-Mobile connected and having trouble getting used to Android and the lack of customizing Profiles etc. Every action seems much longer on the Android from making a call to texting to replying on EMails. I'm giving myself 2 weeks to try and get used to Android but old habits die hard!

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I have used Blackberries for many years and find it frustrating when I try to do a function like what I'm used to. But on the same token, I do like how the Android/Razr does so many more things - I'm just having a hard time getting used to the virtual keyboard. I came from the 9930 with Verizon. I do like being able to load a theme with new icons and such but haven't mastered it with the Razr.

Not to mention my eyes like the bigger screen!

That's reassuring - I see many BB Users are moving over from a Storm 2 which makes sense but a 9930 user switching over to a Razr must have the same challenges or leaning curve that I'm faced with.

The best benefit so far for me is being able to view attachments on Emails instead of the Usual "Truncated Due To Size" nonsense. The large screen is also a huge leap forward. Have you managed to duplicate the BB Profiles from any Apps yet?

In any array made up of thousands or millions of individual devices (pixels) like a screen or the detector in a digital camera, most of the devices will fall within the desired limits, but some will deviate one way or the other. When you ask the screen to display black, most of the pixels will display zero signal, but some will display a value greater than zero. Some may even be stuck fully on. That is the blotchiness you are seeing. You won't see it at all in normal use. It is only visible in extreme situations like displaying a black screen or recording astronomical images. Take a long (say 30 second) exposure with your digital camera with the lens covered and look at the result. It won't be pure black.

It's impossible to make all the pixels perfect with our current level of technology, and it's prohibitively expensive to throw away all the screens with bad pixels, so the manufacturers have to decide what level of defects is "acceptable". You pay more if you want fewer defects. Technology will improve and the screens will be better in the future, but they're pretty excellent right now.

In astronomical imaging they actually record a "dark frame" with all these defects and digitally subtract it from the image frames using Photoshop. In the case of smartphones, the solution is much simpler: It's called "wallpaper". :)

I haven't been able to duplicate the profiles, but I am getting the screens set up the way I like them. I wish there was a way to back it all up so if you had to do a master reset, you'd wouldn't spend 64 hours setting it all back up.

I do like BB, but don't like the direction they are heading - and now no BB10 until late 2012? Not good at all. I think i miss BBM the most, along with the physical keyboard. I am looking for a cross platform messaging app though - something like Touch, LiveProfile, WhatsApp, etc.

In all honesty u know the best thing I like about the Razr...........
I don't have to worry about the rain so much with it.
I can put it down on a coffee table a table at a resturant
and don't have to worry about incidental contact with water, liquids.....

Ok the feel and look of it also but I really don't have to be as paranoid as I usually
am

I LOVE MY RAZR. I like my quad core Asus Transformer Prime, but I am embarrassed to say I wish it ran this Non-Blur UI. I can't find any decent Widgets for the prime.

For an update..... sent the Nexus back today. I assume Verizon will get it Friday and then post my return to my account sometime next week. Then I can order my Razr finally. I did go into the store and play around with it some more to confirm that it is the phone I want.

You will like it....
The Razr is a sweet phone. Also If not you can always go back to the GN
