Apparently I am the type person they had in mind when they made this thing. I buy from Amazon ALL of the time now. Like yesterday, they shot out an email with $5.00 albums on sale. Sure I bought one...5 bucks?
And, I heard something on the other day and bought that album, not on sale, for $8.50. It's all on my fire. Yea, I could prolly search around and yank ways to get em free. But really, they make it so cheap and EASY..
I subscribe to one health magazine I pay for...I love having those with me all time in my newstand. In Amazon Prime, I get a free book a month and stream Frazier episodes on my lunch for needed comic relief.
I ordered about $500.00 worth of stuff for Christmas from my recliner. Only problem there was they separate ALL of their items and bill them according to when they ship. That played heck on my Quicken but I got it figured out.
Not a big gamer, but I have a few on there if needed; solitaire and such.
With the one book a month from Amazon Prime, I read at least one book a month now. It's just handier cuz they're with me on my KF. I like that book selection because I can read everyone's reviews. I've actually bought one book to keep and am buying the one I'm reading now that was free in Prime.
I am planning on buying one movie just to keep on there. I really haven't streamed a whole movie yet, but they look great when I streamed one a little while.

So....yes, I support Amazon a whole lot more now, because they have made themselves accessible, usable with things I want and need and lastly..they're reliable.

I did too I love the free vids so I'm now a prime member too! ;)

I was thinking of buying a new e-reader to replace my aging nook. You guys seem to like the kindle, how do you feel about nook tablet vs kindle fire?

Personally I havn't used the nook. I think one of the upsides is for it is going to be the sd card slot and CM support. We have CM7 though; only issue is the light sensor doesn't work. Several devs are working on CM9 though they seem to have hit a wall with sound and video hopefully they will figure it in time I personally don't have the knowledge to help with that.

There are some complaints about the KF having SOD (sleep of death: does not wake with screen wake) issues in CM7: I personally have never experienced this issue but generally issues if this type have been resolved by disabling the on screen animation (which is a common kernel issue with other devices as well, including the optimus s) and having too low of a minimum CPU speed (probably why I have never seen these issues).

Of course there are no hard buttons but that's not news. If you intend on staying stock amazon provides I think it's 5 gigs of free cloud storage so you shouldn't have issues w/ storing your content (at least things amazon related), otherwise woo dropbox right? :D

Other reviews I have read put the KFs screen quality over the nooks but again I havn't used the nook to have a personal opinion on this one.

Otherwise yeah, I totally bought one but it was hard to pass up when my christmas bonus was a $100 gift card to amazon... Can y'all say half-off ;)

Jason Calacanis had a piece called The Cult of Amazon Prime the other day that talks about how once you get on the Prime tip, Amazon pretty much has you. I've been Prime for almost four years and while I'm not crazy about the $79 annual fee, when Black Friday rolls around and I'm buying $5 Blu-rays one at a time without shipping charges and getting them in two days, I'm over it. Want something? Go buy it and it shows up at your door in a day or two. Their prices are either the lowest or darn competitive and they're always matching others.

I still have my Nook OE1 and use it for most of my reading. I looked into getting the Nook Tablet but decided on the Kindle Fire for a few reasons. 1st I was already a member of student prime which is prime for half the price. You just need an .edu email address. So I am able to stream prime videos as well as Hulu+ and Netflix. 2nd I could sideload the Nook app onto the KF without a hitch, so now I have the best of both worlds and the KF is $50 less. 3rd B&N burned me on customer service badly.
I also run nonrooted stock with ADW Launcher so it looks and feels like a regular Android tablet. As for Amazon content, it doesn't go against your 5gb of space, only if you upload non amazon stuff. I use Dropbox's 5gb and Box's 50gb free promo for most of my files anyway. Which both sideloaded nicely on my KF as well. I use getjar and 1Mobile market for all my sideloading apps that are not on Amazons app market. For me the KF has been a great choice with it's flexability.

If you are looking for a portable device to view movies and listen to music the Kindle Fire out performs the Nook tablet in the sound department:

Sound

"There?s no comparison between the accurate, loud, and rich stereo speakers that sit on the short right side of the Kindle Fire and the distorted, clock radio-like speaker on the back of the Nook Tablet. When we tried playing music and movies on the Fire, sound was loud enough to fill a room and good enough to replace a low-end stereo. The only problem with sound on the Kindle Fire is that the device lacks physical volume buttons."

I have to say that is probably my biggest beef; not having physical button to volume up and down cause you are just simply used to that quick controlability. Other than that...it's 100%.

Lack of hard buttons has to be the biggest flaw in the design hands down, having said that have a widget that gives you the ability to have hidden volume controls accessible from any app courtesy of RubberBigPepper

This installs in CM7 fine not sure about stock (may require build.prop edit).

I can verify the app Volume Control works great on unrooted stock. If you don't have access to Android Market, which us unrooted's don't, then it can be found at 1Mobile Market.
