I tried to scratch my Bioinic with a fork.

So I exchanged my bionic today, but before I did, I wanted to finally put to rest (at least in my mind) how durable the gorilla glass screen was on our devices. Now I know some of you already have scratches on your devices for whatever reason and have posted about it, so don't expect this test to be scientific evidence or anything.

Anyway, so I took a metal fork and rubbed the screen with it using the fork side several times. I was really trying to scratch it here. It was even making squeaky noises from the friction of the fork rubbing on the glass. I thought for sure it was going to scratch, and it looked as if it did, but after cleaning it with a cloth it was still mint! I was pretty impressed. I mean I really was trying to scratch this thing.

But just to give you some extra information - Although I did rub the fork from all different angles, the fork was NOT sharp. I don't expect it to pass the same test using a knife (of course), or a sandpaper like material. But at least I can rest assure knowing it can take a beating from other pointy objects without harm.

With that said, I still will probably get a screen protector, but I am not in much of a hurry or as worried as I was before I did this test.

Somebody tried same test on a d1 with a screwdriver with the same results

I took off my screen protector. I feel a little better because, the only chance I would scratch my screen it with it in my pocket against my keys and, I'm careful to put my keys on the backside touching the case.

I usually keep keys and phone in seperate pocket.....but thanks for running this test...very good to know

With the screen off all black I have a bunch small swirl marks. Its really sad. My X never got this way and it was over a year old.

The Glass is some tough stuff. I've never had a scratch on any of my phones. I never have put a screen protector on any of my phones.

Keys are made of brass and can't scratch glass.

I tried it with my OG Droid and couldnt scratch it at all.

But in any event I keep my Bionic in a pocket with nothing else in it.

I LOVE the feel of the Gorilla glass - it's so cool and smooth ... much smoother than any screen protector! Makes swype so easy! I haven't used a screen protector in a long time, both with my DX and now the Bionic. However, I am careful about protecting the Bionic from potential damage, especially sand (which is a known scratch force).

Same here, I'm pretty disappointed in the glass. I have a small 1/2" scratch on mine.
