I upgraded from a Galaxy s5 to a S7 and all my contacts are mixed up.

When I got the new phone from Verizon I logged into my Google account and my contacts appeared as I would expect them to do, unfortunately, phone numbers and names don't match, several different contacts phone numbers are all lumped under one profile, profile pictures are with the wrong people, 10 email addresses were all lumped together with an existing contact it's a huge mess! How can I unscramble them? I have tried to manually go through and fix them, but they revert back to the mess.
