Hi everyone. First post, just joined last month, and strongly thinking of going 'droid.
I'm researching a new phone, since my contract with Bell (Canada) is up this month, so it's time for a new phone, and I won't be getting another BlackBerry. Oddly, this has less to do with RIM's current problems, and more to do with the App World, which I have never liked. The two 'berries I've owned have been good, reliable devices, but I want something more.
My main concern is screen size (and phone voice quality). My current BB is a Torch, and while that's not bad (compared to my Tour), having seen the newer Android phones, there's simply no comparison.
I have a number of iThings, but never got an iPhone, as I've been waiting for a larger screen. After numerous releases over the years and no change in screen size, I'm not expecting anything radical on that front with the iPhone 5.
I have some questions, and if they've been answered before, I apologize. If you would be kind enough to direct me to the thread, or even what to search for, I'd appreciate it.
1) I'm in Canada. I've been noticing that the two carriers I'm considering (Bell and Telus) all have the same phones I've been considering, and the prices are the same. In my research, I've found that devices released outside North America seem to have 'better' stats. For example, I believe the Galaxy Note is available in a 32 GB model, but the most I can find here is 16 GB. The Samsung Galaxy III is available with 64 GB, but the most I can find here is 32 GB. Why is that?
2) If I purchased a Note 32 GB international from Amazon, would I be able to activate it on Bell or Telus? What are the risks?
3) If I get a device that is running an older OS such as Gingerbread, how hard/risky is it to upgrade to ICS or Jellybean? Do I need to use my service provider's version of the OS?
