I want a photo app to replace G-Photo's that keeps my pics on my phone.

I want to take pictures and keep them private and only on my phone. I disabled Google's Photo. I can find the pictures by using Files but need a simple open source pic editor. My intent is to pull SD card and transfer to PC. Don't know if this matters, my phone is the Blackberry Keyone 64GB running Android 8.1.0.

Are you looking for a gallery app or an editor? Those would really have different answers.

Try Snapseed, which I trust because it's from Google. Gallery and photo editor apps are some of the most popular kinds of apps on the Play Store, and therefore are more likely to carry annoying ads and possibly shadier stuff, if you're not careful.

For an app just to see the pictures, try Google Photos. (It's better than Gallery anyway, in my opinion.)

As far as worrying about them being on Google servers (which they aren't if you turned off photo sync, even if you use Gallery), anyone at Google who has the ability to access your data also has the knowledge to not access it. (Google takes security seriously, and an employee of theirs suspected of accessing a customer's data doesn't last long - and they all know it.)

I stopped using G Photos as it didn't organise my photos as I wanted, I also killed the sync option as I've got multiple backups on other devices.

Someone on these forums suggested Piktures which I have been using for quite a while now. It certainly dose everything I need and, reading your requirements, I think you would love it.
