I want to unroot back to 2.1 update1 ... Question

So, I went ahead and rooted my phone last week ... (froyo) .. etc, etc ... after doing so, I was pleased having committed and doing so without a hitch. That said, I realize now that the battery life is absolutely horrendous -- at best. I've searched and searched the many threads and sites for any sort of work around and much to my dismay -- nothing, works.

I would rather just unroot back to 2.1 update1 and chill until the OTA comes out .. not that it's going to be the answer, but essentially watching my battery life drain before my eyes is well, depressing.

Does anyone know the easiest way to unroot back to 2.1 update1?

Thanks!

root has nothing to do with it. revert back to one of your backups of 2.1 you made (as everyone that roots should have made some kind of backup, usually a nandroid backup) - and you'll be fine. having root does not affect battery. It's possibly an overclocked kernel on your custom roms that is causing you dismay.

Load rom manager and have it flash you back to stock 2.01 and wait for the OTA updates. Do a backup before you do this, just in case.

Rom manager doesn't work. It gives an error.

OP, follow the guides and links in post #4 and 7 in this thread:

This will get you back to stock 2.1 and when the ota update drops, you will get the update notice on your droid.

JiBecause I am curious I went back to unrooted 2.2 using RSD LITE. Then tried to root it using easy root. All hell broke loose. Nothing I tried using so recovery would work. Not even the nandroid restore. The system would come up and have an x through the battery. Then sprecovery couldn't mount the SD card. Uh oh! Using my old storm I copied off contents of my SD card just to be safe. Then cleaned off evidence of rooting just in case I had to go back to the store. Then using RSD flashed 2.0.1 and it ran. Phew! Then downloaded update.zip for 2.1 rebooted into stock recovery. Good to go on 2.1. Then did the same for 2.2 stock. Still good. Using appbrain got all my apps back 1 by one and without data. Titanium is so awesome for this - reason #1 to root. Now loading settings for my apps. Restored launcher pro backup. Now phone looks the same. What I have learned:
Top reasons for rooting:
1. Titanium.
2. Its fun to have that much control over device
3. Has advantages for developing
4. Can overclock. Although it eats the battery and supposedly shortens its life.
5. Can play with different basebands although the stock one in stock build has always been best for me
6. There are scripts to prevent the car dock, remove bloatware, block ads. And more.
Cons:
1. Void warranty if you don't have the patience to unroot it before bringing it in for service
2. Overclocking eats the battery.
3. You are opening the phone up to potential trouble by letting unknown apps have root.

I find this build to be snappier then all the roms I've tried and noticeably better in battery life. I'm sticking with it for now just to give it a chance. I will root it again when bb comes out with a custom rom based on the new stock. Cheers.

Wondering if OP has figured this out? Unrooting has very much improved my battery life. A big part of it was over clocking but not all of it.
