The amazing devs over at Th3oryRom have gotten a running build of Ice Cream Sandwich (using the CyanogenMod 9 and ICS Source, so this thing I think is CM9 based) on the Bionic! I knew someone would get it running eventually, and it's even better that Th3oryRom is doing it, they've been doing great stuff lately. Right now it's an early alpha build, but it boots and runs correctly. Dhacker is still working out kinks and trying to get wifi/data working, but so far it seems to run just fine. Give him a month or so and it'll be stable and ready for flashing (as of right now, everyone suggests to flash in a safe mode so you don't destroy your phone ;) )

Yeah it looks like they will need a couple weeks or like you said maybe a month before its a full working build, but they are working very hard at it and its great to see. Dhacker seems very devoted to getting it done. Me, I came into some happy unexpected funds this week that leave me around >80% sure I'm buying a Gnexus. I LOVE my bionic but I'm pretty sold that I want some unlocked bootloader/full dev support on VZ's network. Bionic is a fantastic phone but I still think I'm going to switch. Will miss you guys here if I do :)

For kicks.... stop by the verizon nexus forum and see whats going on there: http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus/

Remember when the bionic forum had that much lunacy around launch time?? Its painful to watch but I keep dropping in there and fighting the urge to tell everyone how insane and childish they sound, lol :)

Lol. Well I wouldn't doubt that the Nexus will be a great phone, but I kind of NEED that extra SD card and I like physical buttons better. And I'm not a huge Samsung fan :p. Also, I know MP doesn't matter, but it does to me, I like bigger resolution lol. Makes it better to work with in Photoshop and more specifically in videos. And so far, it takes just as good looking photos as the Bionic anyways (well with my Frank3ncam lol).
Once they get Ice Cream Sandwich ready for a daily driver, I won't want a Nexus anymore lol, that's the only thing that entices me about it, the Operating System. And I'll give Dhacker a week before he's got at least 1X and wifi working, he moves fast.
And of course, they'll find a way to unlock the bootloader eventually, maybe Motorola will do it at some point and/or leak a way to do it.

I doubt they'll find a way anytime soon, since moto uses encryption you don't see in other phones with locked up bootloaders. Camera doesn't bug me and like you said MP isn't everything, Nexus can take just as nice pics (or nicer) than the bionic it looks like from what we've seen.

Like I've said Bionic is a fantastic phone, but now I'm really interested in something that will be getting tons of dev support. I feel like the nexus is going to be seeing something new pretty consistently over the life of it, while the Bionic, not so much. And that really excites me. But I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to stick with the Bionic. I believe its build quality is perhaps superior to the nexus, Moto's radios and call quality will NOT be topped, and overall its a great phone. Ideally I'd love to be able to afford to keep the bionic on one line and get the nexus for my fun phone, but that's niether fiscally possible nor even practical haha. I'll see though, like I said I'm about 80% sure I'm going to make the jump, won't be in a hurry though I want to see how the reviews are for it when the VZ model hits and get an idea of what the dev's think and what will be going on with it. I'm in no rush.

I bought this phone to be a great phone, so the dev support from the Th3ory team has just been amazing, but I won't buy a phone that's any less of the features I want (and build quality from Motorola is always better, better reception, etc. like you said). That's why I'm staying with my Bionic, or else yeah, I'd get a Nexus. I love the Nexus screen and of course ICS. But I want an SD card (I'm already out of space anyways lol) and the Motorola build quality. And the way this is going...Th3ory will be staying with the Bionic and Razr for a while, and whenever they start to stop, their ROMs right now are just plain amazing by themselves. I'm running Shift3r and I can't think of a time I actually had issues with it. So once they get ICS going nicely on here, and spice it up with a little of their stuff (they already did with the new build, the power menu is awesome :) ) I think I won't need more updates.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I know it sounds pretty vain, but, I'm noticing more and more how thick the phone it up by the camera. And now that the RAZR got released like a day later and the GNEX is around the corner, I feel like I got last years phone already. Mainly because the design of the targa was in the works like a year ago.
So I'm pretty sure I'm going to drop the Bionic and my Dinc on Craigslist and outright buy a GNEX or RAZR depending on the build quality of either.

Well we're in slightly different boats, as I see nothing negative about the bionic's design and think it sounds silly to call it "dated".. The thing is a beast and a very pretty one at that, IMO, to each his own :)
I just want the unlocked bl so I can see some serious dev action on something. Not to mention the always-fresh updates straight from google if I keep it stock.

Definitely fighting the urge to flash this onto my phone right now. How stable is the newest alpha running?

I've heard great things about Alpha 6. I mean he's got phone working and wifi now. Just no sound, lol, and no 3g/4g, so not ready for daily use. The last I played with was Alpha 4 and it was a lot of fun, I spent around an hour just toying with the new apps and interface, it was very, very smooth and fun. If you have the time, go for it. Safestrap makes it easy to get it up and running and revert back to your regular system when your done playing.

Alpha 7 is working great, but he's still trying to get (all) the audio working (I think he got in call stuff working now) and the data, camera, etc. Getting pretty close, I give him a week and he'll have the audio fixed.

I played with alpha 7 a bit last night, very smooth indeed, nice now that wifi is working. DH just tweeted today that audio is good and he's focused on data now. Shouldn't be long :)

I've been following the development and this ROM looks very exciting. As soon as the 3G/4G radios are running, I'm going to give it a spin.
