Is it true or false, android has decided to cancel the Ice Cream Sandwich update on the Thunderbolt? If so, why keep the Thunderbolt when Samsung S3(?) Has the ICS package. The new Apple 4S(?) Is out and I have been told the A4 is still competes. Who can TB owners complain to or simply trash the TB and move own up

Does the new Iphone have LTE and 4.3 inch screen? If not I wouldn't even trade for it unless I could then sell the Iphone for a new One X.

I'm disappointed we might not get ICS but I'm much more disappointed that clicking on a phone number in the browser doesn't link to the dialer any more and that Adobe is cutting out further flash updates for new android operating systems.

THere has been no news of it being cancelled. But for those of us that signed a 2 year contract can't upgrade yet anyway. I don't feel like paying $600 for a new phone.

What exactly will ICS bring that I'm in a hurry for? I got my Google Talk Video Chat (over 3G, no less!) in Gingerbread. I have decent battery life, few connectivity problems, OK performance, the backported camera libraries so I have pano shooting, a smooth and stable GPS, and really the only enhancements I'd ever want would all require upgraded hardware.

Take your time, HTC, and get it right. And if you decide not to bring ICS to the Thunderbolt, well, I'll understand. Thanks for at least getting us Gingerbread, even if it was ludicrously late. The phone's still got plenty of legs left.

HTC has announced they're killing the ICS upgrade for the Desire HD. Correct me if I'm wrong, but no official word for ICS on the Thunderbolt since they mentioned an August release few months back.

That's correct about the Desire HD (see link below). Many have speculated that the Thunderbolt will suffer the same fate as its internals are very similar to the Desire HD.

HTC: Desire HD to stay on current software, no ICS update | Android Central

Also, see HTC's Android 4 Update FAQ page (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...2Fgo%2Fhtc-software-updates%2F&token=Yjpr8LTM):

"We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. In general, devices with 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. These devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer, HTC Desire HD and others."

Note the "and others." at the end. Also something to note about that page: it used to have a list of phones and their respective ICS update timelines where the Thunderbolt was listed as July/August. But that list is now gone.

In the end, for me it makes no difference as the Thunderbolt works very well on Gingerbread. If it ain't broke... :)

Good thing the 'Bolt has 768MB of ROM then, huh?

In regards to those content with GB, that's super that you are content, but I personally am not. For one, and this is a somewhat silly reason, I would like to be able to use the Chrome browser, which is only compatible with ICS. Moreover, many new features that Google is adding to their apps are only compatible with 3.0 or up. There are also several features (improved multitasking and app disabling) which will greatly save battery life (right now I'm using Swype beta, so my battery isn't lasting too long anymore). All in all, the ICS update would be well welcomed by me.

768MB isn't much more than 512MB. If it were 1GB, I'd have more confidence. May be it will be enough, may be not. Only HTC will know for certain.

I understand why some want ICS, but at this stage of the Thunderbolt?s life cycle, I?d rather have its current stability over potential new features (I?ll look for that on a new phone, one that was designed from the start to work with the latest Android version). As to battery life, I don?t think software is going to do much if anything, it?s more so about the hardware at this point. Since I?ve rooted and frozen all bloatware, I haven?t seen any difference in battery life.

Personally I am 100% happy with my TBolt (running i-Kream). It is the only phone I have kept more than a year. It is just a solid phone. Yes, it has it's idiosyncrasies, but I have learn to live with them or get around them.

I can't upgrade until December and unless big Red gives me a phone that makes me want to sell one of my children (lololol), I won't be upgrading anytime soon. If this TBolt breaks....I will just get a NEW one from Asurion (just ask them to send a new one, I did...and I got one).

I posted this on another of these threads talking about ICS for the TBolt but here it goes...

We now have an explanation for HTC dropping the udpate of the Desire HD (HTC explains decision to drop Desire HD Ice Cream Sandwich update | Android Central) and it has to do with the partition being too small for ICS. The Desire HD has 1.5 GB of storage. The TBolt has 4 GB of storage, so the question becomes, is the partition large enough on the TBolt for ICS?

Yes.

I hate to sound like one of those broken record types, but root. Stop the OTA garbage from being pushed to your phone.
Other then the mediocre battery life, I generally like the phone as is. I have a tablet with ICS on it. It doesn't do anything for me. I don't need the hassle of it on my phone.
