Ice cream sandwich.....is availiable?

You'll have to wait for either T-Mobile to release it built for the G2X or for one of the custom rom developers to do the same. Probably a couple weeks before a stable custom rom hits.

I would say more like a couple of months before a stable version for the G2x.

CyanogenMod has had a full functional build for the g2x since thanksgiving. its currently in private beta.. doubt it will take months before its public.

is it longer enough yet........?

So quick question.....with the Carrier IQ stuff recently........rooting your phone would not avoid this reporting metric etc that is being reported to happen?

With root the Carrier IQ can be removed, but I don't think the G2x has it to begin with.

Get a G2x with stock Froyo on the old baseband, You won't be worried about any kind of IQ concerning the phone...

I've searched all over the web to no avail. It doesn't appear that anything is coming anytime soon but I hope I'm wrong.

The only problem that the team at XDA is having trouble with is sound. They won't release the next version of their alpha until they get sound working.

I haven't been paying much attention to the development phase. I figure it'll happen when it happens. I can wait.

We shall see how long it takes for it to drop on the G2x. I won't be holding my breath too long though.

Well there you have it....ICS in April May or June.....or knowing LG more like October. Don't think I will be sticking around much longer with LG when it comes to smart-phones. And I don't get it. The G2X is a plain vanilla android device.....unskinned and all.....and yet it is going to take as long as some of the other devices that have a custom lg skin on it? That should have been a quick push out. Stock android. One of the reason I chose that over a sense or touchwiz device.

Straight from the LG Facebook page.

LG will be offering the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS upgrade for a range of LG smart-phones which were introduced this year. The global upgrade schedule will begin in the second and third quarters of 2012, which will be followed by a global roll out.

During the second quarter of 2012 upgrades will begin for the following smartphone models: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse. These upgrades will be followed by upgrades for the following smartphone models during the third quarter of 2012: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

Too little too late.

I agree I'm afraid. This is most definitely not the news I wanted to hear. I'm going to ride out the first quarter or so of 2012 and see what's out there and then make my purchase accordingly. A phone running stock android should be no problem to update and I'm afraid I have indeed lost my faith in LG. I love the build quality and the tegra 2 processor is tops but I simply can not tolerate such a laxe approach to software updates.
