icons in folders going to default icon

i have this ongoing problem where all my icons in folders keep changing to the default android icon. it has something to do with whether they are on my phone or on my sdcard. i have solved it several times by either moving all programs to my phone and back and i think one time it helped to remount my sdcard and but now that i have so many apps i can't put all my apps back to my phone and back to my sdcard.

has any body had this problem?

or know how to indeed fix it for good.

it is really annoying to me

i'm using launcherProPlus if that has anything to do with it. but i think i had this problem before this.

Could it be because i used a app2SD app to move them to my sdcard instead of the OS?

I'm still having this problem alot and i don;t use app2SD. there seems to be one folder with a problem and once i delete that folder and make a new one, then add all the items back again, it will sometimes restore all the icons to the other folders but sometimes i don't which one is the problem so i have to do this to all of them.

are you using launcher pro? i had that problem when i was using it. I'm using adw ex now and havent had that problem since.

really? hmmm...
Maybe i will contact them and tell them that. see if that it is a problem with LP. it's really getting annoying i was considering using a app organiser but it seems silly using one to do the same thing as the folders. i almost can't bring myself to use them because it's just a waste of cpu power i know they are doing a full rewrite soon. maybe that will fix it.
thanks for the imput

Default Icon workaround for now

Hey all,

It looks like what is happening is that the launcher is loading BEFORE the SD card is mounted. That means that if you have icons on the sd card (which you do if you have moved programs off the phone to the sd card with 'apps2sd' or anything similar) they don't get loaded and you get the default icon. This can happen with the default launcher if the sd card mounts slowly, but seems to be more likely with addon launchers.

Workaround until this is addressed that I am using is to go into 'Settings/Applications', find the addon launcher and kill it. If it is the default, it will start again on its own. If it is not, just start it again the way you usually do. The card is already mounted, so all the icons should appear normally.

Hope this helps!

iirc this is actually a bug with the optimus s and not with the launchers.
the workarounds i know of are:
1. buy a faster SD card
2. keep the screen's backlight on while the phone is still booting up; after a minute or two the default icons will change to the actual phone's icons.
3. keep the screen's backlight on, unmount the SD card, and either remove and reinsert the SD card or just remount it (though for me removing and reinserting the SD card has been more reliable). after a minute or two the default icons will change to the actual phone's icons.

edit: did not realize how old this thread was, sorry.

well i kind of given up on using the folders at this point. I have 8GB card but it was happening with the 2GB that came with it before. I just put everthing i need on my dock and if it is something i'm using more frequent i will pull it out and throw it on the background. other wise it's not much more of a hassle to go to the app drawer.
Thanks for the reply.

I'm having this issue with two games I have on my SD card, Paradise Island and Stupid Zombies. They keep changing to the default robot icon. If I move them to phone memory it doesn't happen. I want them on my SD card though.

Both games are in a folder. Not using any add on launcher, and have an almost empty 32GB memory card.

If you are using Launcher Pro, just gointo preferences and restart launcher pro, it fixes it everytime for me.

Chrisy, make sure your micro sd card is class 4 or above. If it's only a class 2, that could cause problems.

Assuming it's not that, try reformatting the card on your pc. Unmount and remove the micro sd-card from your phone.

Create a new a folder on your pc desktop (to store the contents of your sd card while you format it). Name the folder sd temp ( Or name it whatever you want).

Hopefully you have an adapter for the micro usb card so you can plug it into a usb port on your pc.

After the sd card is plugged into the pc's usb port, and the pc recognizes it, use cut and paste to move everything that's on the sd card to the sd temp folder you created on the desktop..

Now Open "My Computer" and right click on the sd card. You'll get a list of options and one will be "Format". Click on it, and choose the option for fat32. And make sure you do a complete format, not a quick format. It shouldn't take to long.

Once it's done, cut and paste everything from the sd temp folder, back to your sd card. Then put it back in the phone and mount it.
Hopefully the problem is gone.

Also make sure you give the phone a few minutes to load everything after you turn it on. Otherwise the stock icons are what you'll see for some of your apps until everything finishes loading.

If you use LauncherPro, then that WAS probably the issue. I was having the same problem. But LauncherPro actually just released an update that so far has seemed to patch this issue. Let us know if you still experience this problem after installing the most recent update.

Re: Default Icon workaround for now

The user that wrote that the SD isn't getting mounted before the device boot is absolutely right in my case...AND a little heads-up for others: the reason mine was booting before SD mounted is I would occasionally reboot my phone while connected to pc, not consistently checking to see that I had unmounted it from the pc first (even tho I HAD answered "no" to the dialog asking if I wanted to copy files to/fro which to me should be enough)...and hadn't made the connection that the icon problem only occurred when I did that. Your solution made me see the connection. I really only connect her to the pc to keep her charged while I connect thru her hotspot.

It would be nice if I there was setting so when the device is plugged into the pc (especially if you answer "no" when it asks if you want to copy files to/fro) that it would just default to using the pc just to recharge the device AND THEN you could tell it if you want it to mount the SD. Other than "as soon as you plug it in, always tell pc to make it safe to remove" are there any suggestions how to make it default that way?
