ICS for thunderbolt?

Re: ICS for thunderbolt???

Galaxy Nexus with ICS releases Next month according to the google / samsung live event earlier on youtube. Wish I liked Samsung phones that phone looked very nice. I'm more interested in the OS on my thunderbolt though..

Ics is available for developers now. I'm sure team bamf will have some goodness for us before too long.

Are you saying the source code is released?

Re: ICS for thunderbolt???

no.... only the SDK was released last night. that's not the source code

Re: ICS for thunderbolt???

SDK was released, so you'll start seeing ICS theme's (icons and what not) soon....

Once someone worth a damn gets their hands on an actual phone running ICS or some source code you can bet everyone and their mom will be racing to put out the first ICS Rom....

Ah, I need to quit taking Tech buzz at first reports... I read on it that it was in fact the source code... Guess the report jumped the gun. That's twice now I've read bad info from blogs posted on it.

Re: ICS for thunderbolt???

I was under impression that ICS was going to require a dual core processor device, did I read incorrect?

Re: ICS for thunderbolt???

According to Google’s Director of Android operating system User Experience, Matias Duarte, ICS “theoretically should work for any 2.3 device.” But as always we'll have to wait and see.

The only thing I've seen is a theme for themechooser. I'm running it now and it does have some really nice aesthetics. You can find it HERE!

Install the APK, open ThemeChooser, apply and enjoy!

Those are devices that will probably get the update because they basically just came out. I don't think we will see an official update from htc because...
1) it costs them money to update an aging phone
2) its gonna take a while for them to integrate sense into ics, I don't see it happening till next summer, by then the thunderbolt will be considered eol

HOWEVER... the thunderbolt is perfectly capable of running ics hardware-wise. I don't know about you but my single core handles anything that I throw at it with ease. We have some awesome devs that will continue to produce roms for the thunderbolt. The fact that the galaxy nexus is a 4g device will make it easier to make ics roms for the thunderbolt which was admittedly tough to make roms for at first as it was the first 4g lte device. So my advice is root and be happy :-) we'll see some ics soon enough

I agree but the new user interface will require more out of device and all devices have a limit, I also think storage may be problem factor as well but we will have to wait and see... I believe the developers will make it happen but as you reported I do not think it will be a official build for the TB..

Guaranteed the boys at BAMF will be porting this in a couple months.

May want to look at this post.... Will my phone get Ice Cream Sandwich? Our predictions: | Android Central

If you noticed all devices listed is dual core and the Thunderbolt isnt listed...
Yeah,, it looks like ICS for the ThunderBolt will not come from HTC/VZW, but from the developers.

Here's a quote from the article in the link you posted...

"Specifically, phones with the second gen Snapdragon, like the HTC Thunderbolt, would run ICS awfully well, but carriers and manufacturers aren't going to be in any hurry to spend money on them."

I like the "run ICS awfully well" part.
