Idle network usage consumption question

Let's say you have your N7 wifi'd or Bluetooth'd with your phone. You get interrupted and the devices sit there idle for an hour. Are they going to be using any data in sleep mode? My Rezound shows me that networks are off when the screen is in sleep mode/off.
