Right now, only the Nexus 5X/6P and Pixel phones are supported: https://fi.google.com/about/faq/#supported-devices. Not sure if there are any hardcore hacks that might make other phones compatible.

It will work network wise.. but it won't work with Fi feature such as auto connecting to wifi and such.

Yep. It most likely will only stick to T-Mobile and won't do the wifi thing. Other than that it'll work.
