I have a question about the market place. Say I get a new phone can I download the apps I bought before or do I need to pay for them again?

SpellibngThe apps you downloaded before and PAID for will be saved in the downloads section of the App Market. The Free apps you downloaded previously will have to be searched and downloaded again.

Okay so if I get a new android based phone I can just re-download the apps without having to pay for them.

If you download and install a backup app, you should be able to swap SD cards too.

From what I was told, the market-based apps are linked with your Gmail email address so regardless of being free or paid, you would be able to redownload the free or paid apps. Please correct me if I am wrong but I saw that on this forum but in a different thread.

That is true if it's the same device (ie you hardreset) but if you get a different device then it's just the paid.

You can also do a backup using Astro, swap SD cards into the new phone, and do an application restore.

Protected apps (paid) will be stored in the market, ID'd under your gmail account, for re-download.

Both free and paid apps are linked to your gmail account. I received a replacement phone for dropping my original phone in water. When I logged into my gmail account the market automatically downloaded both my free and paid apps. Just letting you know from first hand experience.

as long as ur not running a different OS ur fone will automatically download ur apps for u again. so as long as u were using a ROM u should be good

I just did a factory reset and my apps showed up in the market, both free and paid, but were not downloaded. Does it do it automatically? Is the app data still there? I mean, this feels like a broken system. My phone should be exactly the way it was when I log back into Google but it isn't. Sure, the wallpaper showed up but my ringtones, patternlock, etc were all different. Even my Facebook syncing was gone. Blackberry Desktop Manager made switching devices painless. This is a terrible ordeal and makes me never want to replace or change phones again. **** you, Google.

Here's to hoping they release a desktop client at GoogleIO so we can actually transfer to new devices without losing out ****ing application data.
