if I have a spare S5, there is no point in paying $8 to Verizon for phone insurance, right?

I have a Verizon Galaxy S5. Each month, I pay Verizon an extra
$8 for TEC phone insurance. Yes, I do need it. I have drowned
or dropped my phones in the past. :)

However, I am getting a 2nd Verizon Galaxy S5 for $1 and will be
using it as a wifi-only device, only occasionally. Does it make
sense for me to continue paying $8/ month for the insurance?
(or about $96 for one year.... $192 for two years, so on)

I honestly think I would remove the coverage. You have a spare, and the insurance claim will provide you a refurbished one, not new.

TEC is moving up to $9,but a moot point as Verizon TEC only covers the active device on the line. Once you remove the device from the line then no more TEC for that device

Just keep in mind that after 1 year, you won't have any warranty, so if it fails 1 year and a day then you will have to pay for it fully out of pocket. For that, you can get extended warranty for $3/mo,no deductible and no claim limit

isn't that what my spare S5 is for? :) I also have too many phones. Have a spare Galaxy Note 2 and a Galaxy Note 3 in my drawers right now. (plus 5 or 6 other old phones) I think I may be a phone hoarder. :(

I thought samsung offer 2 year warranties?

Or is it different in the US?

In the UK we get 2 year warranties from Samsung.

With that many recent phones, probably no need for extended warranty.
