If I update nexus 6 phone to android will I get 5g

My nexus 6 does not work on at&t as it is LTE, will I be able to get 4g or 5g if I update the phone to android 12?

Hardware, also 4g and 4gLTE are basically the same thing. If your phone isn't working there is another problem.

The Nexus 6, though ageing, ought to be capable of 4G surely? That would be in Settings, Mobile Networks, or similar.

Unfortunately, you'll need to purchase an AT&T branded device or an unlocked device listed in the link I provided.

Physical hardware, phone needs an antenna and modem capable of 5G and the frequencies it operates at.
