If true we can all stick to our original plans...

Someone posted this in another site about the tiered plans. If this is the case then maybe it won't be an issue for everyone, of course not sure how it might change if you upgrade to an LTE phone. Hoping it is still the same case since it seems like they are making the plans for 3G and LTE be the same thing.

i will grab my charge and wait till told otherwise that this point is true. plenty of time from buying next week till the 7th.

Well that is an interesting find. Makes my decision a little more difficult now on what to upgrade to from my DX.

does this mean that people who got a TB or Charge now, can in 20months upgrade and keep their plan?

And does it also mean that as long as you keep upgrading on that same account you can literally keep on that plan forever?

This wont include anyone that does not have a data plan, right? I'm going to be moving from a feature phone to a smartphone.

correct, since its the data plan that is changing, not your phone plan.

I must of read this wrong the first time.

This seems to good to be true.
Imagine the fine prints.

For example, maybe it can also mean that existing 4G customers can upgrade and keep the plan when they do upgrade to another 4G phone. But when a 3G phone tries to upgrade to 4G, it is possible they may not accept. But who knows right now, well find out AFTER the plan comes out and settles.

This would suggest that, but it seems unlikely. These things can change at any time as well. With ATT, I'm pretty sure the only customers still with unlimited data on the iPhone are those who purchased an iPhone 3G before unlimited went away, and have upgraded at full retail price since then. Verizon may allow us to upgrade with the discount and keep our unlimited data, but either way, you'll definitely wanna grab something LTE before the 7th or you're SOL.

Then again, in 2 years their LTE network may be strong enough that they decide to offer unlimited plans again. After all, it provides much greater throughput and is cheaper to maintain and operate than EVDO once its actually in place. I wouldn't bet on it though, best to grab something now and lock in if unlimited LTE is your thing.

That's exactly what I've been thinking while i was walking my dog a few moments ago. This might just make me get the TBolt or the Charge... June 29th is the day I'm getting a new phone guranteed. Does the Charge have an unlocked bootloader? In the future i know i will need CM once the phone starts to wear down.

Exactly, i mean just cause the 3G and 4G pricing are the same doesnt mean that in the fine prints the plan is actually different.

I suppose if what i assumed is true, then people who want the SGII are safe if they are using a 3G phone currently.

Yeah, there is a lot of fine print stuff yet to be answered. Don't know if this is an indefinite thing or just maybe something you can use when renewing the first time after the changes or for a limited time. Also don't know how it might be affected if you only have a 3G phone and you are trying to upgrade to an LTE phone. There are a lot of different ways Verizon can screw you on this one and the worst part is I already know asking the people at the store will only get me a different answer each time.

This is a start, but until we start seeing the small details, we won't know if this is really great news or something that will only assist a few people and leave most of us trying to figure out what to do next. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to wait for the S2 as planned, order a Charge and then buy something at retail price, or jump to Sprint.

Yeah, the bootloader is unlocked, and there are a number of kernels available that give you permanent root, and we have some nice ROMs already as well. Just like the other SGS phones, it couldn't be easier or safer to play around with a phone, as even a brick that corrupts the bootloader is easy to recover from, thanks to being able to put the phone in download mode and reflash everything from your pc.

Gingerbread has already leaked for the Fascinate, and its CM7 port is nearly complete, Samsung's working on GB for the Charge, and a few of the devs that have worked with CM7 are already making stuff for the Charge. So there's no way to say when it'll come, but we'll almost certainly have CM7 eventually. And it doesn't look like GB is that far off, and with the development out already, its only gonna get better from here.

So again, if you're the type that likes to mess with your phone's software, the Charge gives you plenty of options, as it takes advantage of the vast development community that exists for the SGS phones in general.

Slowie you have some hard decisions to make :) wait for the gs2 (good) buy the charge (good) go to Sprint (if coverage in area is good you are good to go)

I think the Charge is a great buy because it has a great dev community beginning to back it. That's what's kept me on the Droid for so long. So that's a definite bonus.

Galaxy SII will be the best device of 2011 (my opinion) so its definitely worth waiting for.

Sprint has an awesome Android line up so that's a great move if you move over (assuming coverage is great in your area)

I say wait for the Galaxy SII it runs like butter. No device can touch it. At the end of the day you can't go wrong with any of your choices.

So are you gonna settle for a tiered 3g plan to get the Function when it drops? I love the GS2 as well, but I wanted unlimited LTE, so that's why I got the Charge. I figure by the time an LTE GS2 comes out I may be able to afford to sell the Charge and pick that up for my unlimited plan. But I have to agree that the development for the Charge is great, so you may want to consider doing what I'm doing if unlimited LTE attracts you at all.

I mean waiting on the SII, as hard as it is, is my first choice just because like I said over in the SII area, I'm sold on the phone. I'd love to have LTE, but I can live without it for now. I watch how well that phone works in the vids and that is what I want. I'm warming up to the Charge some, I feel like I will be happier with the SII.

Sprint has a great line-up and the price on their plans are great, I'm just not sure they have great coverage. I think they work alright in my area, but not everywhere like Verizon does. Great phone doesn't do me much good if I don't have a signal.

For me it is all going to come down to the fine details on how renewal works after tiered plans go into effect. The only thing that worries me is getting answers from a rep that turns out to be wrong. History tells me that the answers I get from one person might not actually be what another person says at the store or on the phones, and when it comes time to make the renewal I normally find out that one or two things are the complete opposite of what I was told and end up getting screwed in the process.

I did the same thing if the bionic or w.e else comes out blows me away I will sell the charge and grab it otherwise I am fine sticking with my charge. Another thing on twitter one of the know whos said that if you have a 3g phone and go to upgrade to 4g after july 7th you wont be grandfathered. Who knows though with verizon I will just get in now and worry about that when my next contract is up.

Yes sir I don't really care about LTE to be perfectly honest. I would like to have it yes but not at the expense of settling for a handset I don't particularly care for. I don't use a lot of data on my phone at all. The most data intensive thing I do is surf these forums via tapatalk and watch youtube videos once in a blue moon. I have wifi at home so I'm pretty much set.

When a great LTE handset is released next year ill purchase it. My other line is up for an upgrade next month :) so I can use it up if something I can't resist pops up.
