if you still have unlimited data plan, do you also pay $30/month for unlimited texts?

if you still have unlimited data plan, do you also pay $30/month for unlimited texts?

I have unlimited data plan and my data usage is big, so no current VZW plans makes financial sense.

however, I also dislike having to pay $30 a month for unlimited data. I average about 2500 texts per month.

Is there an alternative for me?

Thanks!

I am on an older plan which has unlimited text and data, but I only have 450 min (used to be 700, went from two lines down to one).

There is definitely an option for you, but it's not for the faint of heart! Verizon has a loophole that allows someone to port their number to Google Voice and immediately request a new phone number. This will allow you to keep your current plan, but have your main number now be associated with Google Voice. By going this route, you can get free text messages (including MMS and Group) which then allows you to drop the texting plan. It still works based on posts from other forums; though, you definitely proceed at your own risk.

The steps - https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/526242

Proof from 8/25/15 - Does Google Voice port-out trick still work? (see last page, post 91, as poster was able to port to AT&T and keep the unlimited plan)

Going this route could save you even more money if you wanted to use Google Voice for VOIP service. This would allow you to reduce your phone minutes too.

I pay $10 for 1000 messages. I use around 300 messages in a month and I'm fine with it. I'd consider GV, but most folks have my cell number and I like the simplicity. I could upgrade to unlimited for an additional $6.20, but my usage doesn't justify it.

I've got an older unlimited voice with UDP, VZ gets $10.00 extra from me for 1000 texts.

Best is to call VZ tell ' em your usage and plan and see what's available. You might be locked into not changing the text plan as it might affect your UDP.

I was told a year or so ago if I change anything on my plan I could lose UDP.

Good luck!
