Just about 22 months ago I went over to the Dark Side (iPhone). Since I needed a new device I said, let me see what the big to do it with this iPhone. Not knowing how well they manage data I bought the 6S Plus 128GB, could have gotten away with the 64. iPhone is a good quality device and it works and that's what most people who swear by them tell me. It's a very simple phone, you don't really have to think about it. I really can't stand that every time you want to install an app, even free ones you have to enter your password. I there's an update you have enter you pin at least 3 times. I began feeling I had the Black Box in my hand. For me the only two features I liked are 1) Apple pushes updates when available. No waiting to the carrier. 2) Apple stores. I have one withing 15 minutes of my home. I have Apple Care and I noticed my screen was scratched so I setup an appointment to drop it off one Friday night after work and I picked it up the next morning when they opened with a brand new screen. It was nice not having to ship it away and wait days or weeks. But those two features doesn't justify the cost and what I would call shortcomings.
If you're on a call and you get a notification you hear it in your ear. When I called Apple Care they told me to just silence the phone. I said that's ridiculous. Having to turn it on and off makes no sense. I don't remember my Note 2 doing this. Also, all preferences are in settings instead of the app itself. Apple does not let you set Google maps or another email app as defaults. There are many other things.
But now I'm coming home. I ordered a Pixle 2 XL and should have it next week. I'm going with an unlocked Pixel simply for the Android updates. I was tired of waiting for Samsung to give it AT&T or Verizon and for them to take forever to release if they even do it. I don't understand why Samsung doesn't just push updates themselves. They will sell an unlocked device but then you're at the mercy of the carrier. Makes no sense.
I will get off my soapbox now and ask anyone to fill me in on what I've missed over the past two years and if anyone already has their Pixel - what do I have to look forward to.
Thanks in advance.
