I'm confused. Led light notifications

OK. When I get a email sometimes its a constant yellow. Other times its flashing blue. Other notifications the same. When I get a notification can I just get it to blink. I don't like the constant light and I don't care about colors. Thanks.

The only issue that I know of with my LED is that it is on when I charge the phone when I disconnect the charger it goes off. Is this normal? I tried light flow app but it was terrible.
