When I delete the email from my X, it is removing them from my home computer. What do I do to change that setting?

You need to provide a little more info. When you say home computer and email are you referring to a POP account or IMAP email account?

It sounds like you have an IMAP account. The difference being with POP you download a copy of your email from the server but with IMAP you are essentially working on files directly on the server thus deleting using your phone will still be deleted when you view your IMAP email from your computer.

I just changed out some of my emails to IMAP. I have both POP and IMAP. My problem has been I have 3 computers at home. One upstairs, one downstairs, and a laptop. I was all POP. Sometimes I would check mail on downstairs computer and then my wife would come home from work and check the upstairs computer and the email never made it to that computer. A friend told me that was because I had POP accounts and once it got downloaded to one of my computers it would not download to another. He told me to switch my accounts to IMAP and that wouldn't be a problem. Obviously, it appears I'm gonna have to learn how to deal with IMAP accounts.

BOTTOM LINE, I want to receive the same email on both home computers and my X. I want them to stay on all computers until I delete from one of the devices. What do I do? Maybe I can't have my cake and eat it too...

da, sounds like I need a basic email course. I have tried to web search IMAP and POP and just haven't found the results I was looking for (or better said, understand)

That is exactly IMAP functionality. All the email clients are looking at the same single server account. If one email client (computer, droid, etc) deletes an email it is deleted on the server thus all the other clients will not show it.

But your original complaint was deleting them on your phone was deleting them from your computer.

I'm not sure if this works for multiple computers, but I've found that if the email is something you want to have on your computer, don't delete it on your X until AFTER you open it on your computer (or visa versa). Then it will stay there when you delete it on your X (or elsewhere).

Gebo, what program are you using to check your email? Outlook or Outlook Express perhaps? Hopefully yes and then I have an answer for you.

I'm using the standard Mac email.

da, I may have not stated my original problem correctly. Your response helped me understand. All I know is after I opened an email on my X and then erased it, I would go home to send a response and it wouldn't be on my home computers. I was assuming I was erasing it from the home computers but in fact, I may have been erasing it from the server before it got to my home computers. Correct?

If it is an email you don't want to delete off your computer either pull down your notifications bar and just clear the notifications or after you check your email hit menu mark as unread and back out. This will allow you to check the email then leave it on your inbox and clear the notification at the same time.

Bottom line if you want it to show on your computer do not delete it on your x. If it's the notification you are trying to get rid of then just clear it or if you want to read the email from your phone just mark it unread before you back out.

What I hate is when I delete it from my x it doubles the email in the trash sometime triples. I have aol and its not a big deal I just think its silly. Plus I can't clear my trash folder from my x, if I try it just doubles it back into the trash again.

Yes, I think that is the basic issue here. Do some trial and error experiments with deletions. I had BlackBerries before and, even though I wanted it to delete on the server, it never did. All of a sudden, with the X - email disappeared!

One thing about Gmail retrieving Pop 3 email and shipping it to the DX, which is what I have, Gmail does NOT ship spam! What a blessing! I always check the spam box on my computer to make sure nothing important has been waylaid.

Though the Gmail app you can check your spam.

Also if you are using Gmail and you delete it on your phone it will delete it on your computer, because its all coming form a "Gmail" server. Which works with any other e-mail I believe(yahoo, msn, etc). So if you don't want it deleted why delete it? All 3 computers will be checking e-mail from the same area(server) which if you deleted it on 1 computer it will delete it for all computers(devices) checking it. When you go check your e-mail you refresh it to check whats on the server. But this thread problem is worded very confusing.
